  1. The most expensive/valuable players are goalscorer when you have a top 5 pick, you choose the most valuable player/futur trade chips for possible futur needs

  2. Last year one of the great concerns during the season was that no one outside of the top line was scoring goals. There are two ways to solve this either have your top line score more or have better goal scorers in your other lines. It's kinda short sighted to say that we don't need goal scoring forwards because Vegas won without them. Vegas had three lines that could produce goals and play defense.

  3. I've said it before but I insist, Newhook is going to be very good for the Habs. It's a gut feeling based solely on the eye factor and on how much the staff was willing to pay for him but I'm confident that he'll shock most of the fanbase.

  4. I wish we would drop the "Swiss Army knife" expression. It's so useless because every time it's used it has to be accompanied by an explanation, which makes the expression quite unnecessary ("He's a Swiss Army knife because he's so versatile…"). This expression is tiresome in the same way that "back end" or "good looks" or "back of the net" or defensemen "activating" are.

  5. What the Habs need to do is to sign Nylander. Start forgetting about 3rd and 4th line players and go for top, established players, right now.

  6. Look at Edmonton & Toronto they have scoring but they sacrificed the defence… the habs are building a full rounded club.. not either or

  7. Funny how Hughes kept saying he choose based on talent and not needs, and still we keep hearing them talk about the pick being related towards need and not talent

  8. I really hope suzuki and caufield deliver cuz it's been a hot minute since we've had true elite offensive players. who's the last one, kovalev probably ?

  9. I 100% trust and support Mr. Hughes & Mr. Gorton through this rebuild process.

I think that many of their critics will be proven wrong.

  10. Have anybody in management actually won a Stanley Cup? They keep talking about what it takes. I ain't buying what they are selling.

  11. IMO, there are 1 or 2 top 6 offensive guys that will be acquired through exchanges or free agents in the next 2 years. When the time comes, they will have plenty of young assets to give.

  12. Well… I kinda of agree with them. If their projections are:
    Caufield – Suzuki – Slafkovsky
Newhook – Dach – Anderson (or the next best fast scoring winger we can get.
And on D they weren’t too confident in the top 4, well at least now we know we can have
    Ghule + 1 ( Mailloux, Baron, Mathewson )
    Hutson + Reinbacher
Engstrom OR Harris + Mailloux or Baron

You’re now pretty set on the back end.

    And eventually:
    Tuck – Beck – Roy

  13. The last 6 Stanley cup winners haven’t had a 100 point scorers, suzuki had as many points as the Stanley cup winners leading scorer. Defence wins cups and has for a very long time

  14. It makes a lot of sense in a way because everything really starts with a good back end to support the offensive transition. Stability in the back has been an issue for quite some time now. We have seen so many defencemen come and go it makes it quite apparent the real issue was in the back to support the offence. Price has been always the difference maker on many occasions but he cannot score goals himself. Weber and Markov were truly quality back ends. Subban was a giveaway artist but was strong on the offensive rush. Right now, we are stacked on the left side but the right side is going to be a little painful to watch when we need to develop both Reinbacher and Mailloux. I can live Kovecevic as he gives you 110% on every shift on a 3rd pairing. It can't be worse when you have Wideman there trying to help but he was simply a disaster on the backend in his end. We have given some quality playing time to Harris, Arber and Ghule to develop and they show lots of promise! WE can't afford to lose a Matheson or Savard when we are transitioning some young, promising defenders into the NHL. I don't think SErgachev would have had so much success if Hedman was not around to take the leadership role. It helped him gain confidence as he matured over the last few years indeed. Same thing will be needed for Ghule, Xhekaj, Harris, Reinbacher, Struble, Mailloux & Hutson as they mature into the NHL. Our top 6 forwards are quite impressive and still very young. It looks interesting but we will need to be patient as they grow up together. Just let the kids loose, let them play & have fun!

  15. Reinbacher is a future number 1 dman and that is more important than a flashy winger

  16. He is making dumb excuses I tire of the EXCUSE that players are still young.GOOD quality players do NOT need time they are just good right away and have been good already years before being drafted.Time will NEVER turn a bad player into an impact player.
"first pass"sounds good on paper…..has anyone actually watched habs games? The forwards come back TOO DEEP so that first pass cannot be found just a bunch of players chasing the puck instead of picking up a man.
Vegas cheated the cap by a LOT that is why they had such a good overall team. They also had some injury time so certain players numbers would be higher.

  17. The Habs need two things and they will contend at least 3 HQ forwards and MUCH better coaching.

  18. Why pick up zedina we have so many players that should get a shot right now.

  19. Just look at recent Stanley Cup champions. They don’t have 40+ goal scorers. Only Crosby once and Ovechkin. What we need is more balanced scoring. And defence!!

  20. I think Habs Management is playing 3D chess and we're playing checkers. Haha… It's all gonna be good. They really know what they're doing. Keep the faith. GHG

  21. I think Bobrov is just saying that we need to let the young guys get a chance to score before we aggressively pursue scorers

  22. if we're gonna nickname Reinbacher as Swiss Army Knife – just call him Victorinox – they are the original and best swiss army knife makers… otherwise he'll end up having Swiss Army Knife shortened to SAK 😂
    Respect & Peace ☘

  23. Newhook suzuki Caulfield
    Slaf Dach Andy
    RHP Monny Gallagher
    Hoffman Evans Armia
    Defense was perfect

  24. Hughes is building the team like the Habs teams of the 1970’s. Predicated on great D that helps drive the offense, and of course great Goaltending which is a work in progress. The D however is set!

  25. I wish they'd dump Bobrov. I don't agree with their apparent plan.
Yes I see the value Reinbacher but his stock rose due to sparse higher end RD's. Mailloux more offensively strong Reinbacher more defensively strong but we get into that European in a smaller rink, NHL speed and aggressiveness issues possibly. Future valuable defense surplus will allow trades for forwards though. Acquiring a RD was not crucial at this point, more depth with LD's Engstrom, Hutson, Trudeau and more including RD's. Elite Pavel Bure was drafted 113th and there's always late bloomers. They could of waited, next draft, trade for RD. Defense does look pretty snazzy though.
They passed on Michkov, I get it, a smaller one way winger with Caufield, Hutson and other smaller players Michkov doesn't fit the balance. The kicker is they passed on some rare offensive talent to fill in roles while they were available, potentially types hard to acquire by trade.
Their two best faceoff guys, Monahan and Dvorak will be gone, hopefully Beck fills a faceoff strong Dside role and bit of offense too. They're leaving big holes in the forward pool for he future. Anderson, another rare type will be gone could have had a better version of pwer forward with Leonard. Like said they said in the video, they need some potentially top end forwards in the prospect pool. You can't carry the team on with just Caufield, Suzuki and Dach who are performing comparably to NHL level second liners for now. Yes them and others will get better but then there's these project player acquisitions, trying to get another hit like Dach. Gurianov backfired though small sample size. No bets.
No balance in the prospect pool, it's 90% defense. RD could of waited they should have picked offense while it was there. They picked a potential 2nd pair Dman over needed potential top 6 talent.
Add in favoring risky European players, I don't like Bobrov at all.
Do gotta give Slaf time, he's young but so far he's not looking like that championship performance player and more like the fourth line TPS player.

  26. I’m not worried because we are either gonna get Celebrini, Eiserman or Demidov next year. Missing out on Michkov this draft won’t mean a thing because when we get Demidov (the better Russian prospect) we’ll be okay.
