Button explains why he wasn’t surprised to see Carlsson go ahead of Fantilli

Jay Onrait was joined by TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button from the NHL Draft to discuss why he wasn’t surprised to see Leo Carlsson go second overall ahead of Adam Fantilli, the Canadiens selecting David Reinbacher with the fifth pick, Matvei Michkov falling to the Flyers at No. 7, and how the other Canadian clubs did at the draft.

  1. I think it’s a good idea. Anaheim needed a player with a larger frame because Zegras, terry, and Mctavish could be quite vulnerable at the playoff level. A large center like Carlsson makes sense

  2. Columbus was dancing tonight, Fantilli is gonne be amazing on both ends of the ice, huge body and fast AF.

  3. There was nothing between Carlsson and Fantilli. Carlsson was clearly better at the worlds. It is what it is when 2 players are that close they always rank the north American skater higher.

  4. Craig Button is full of bologna! After the fact, he always shows up saying that he knew this was going to happen or that was going to happen. I cannot stand him!

  5. Let us know how many Swede born players have lifted that Stanley cup in the past 5 years please. Verbeek just Verphucked it.

  6. what has fantilli done that is so great and not worthy of being bumped down one spot? dominating in a league where most players will quit in 2-3 years or end up play in the Alps HL.

  7. Really. Is anyone happy being a flyer? At least with San Jose or Anaheim you live is a nice location

  8. Craig Button must have a zipper in the back of his pants. His hindsight is 100%

  9. One thing. Men vs boys… don’t understand why they think junior leagues holds a better ranking than SHL.

  10. I can see how the Ducks passed on a College student as these guys have the ability to jump ship if they elect to stay in school. With that said, I would need 100% guarantee before selecting a College student in Rounds 1 or 2.

  11. I was hoping Montreal would take Michkov, but right handed defenders are hard to acquire and through the draft seems to be the way to do so. Not many options in free agency or available via trade right now
