  1. I'm a hawks fan – had no problem with Maatta but cap space and room for one of our young defenseman to step up is all good. After the Kings traded us Kubalik last season, I don't mind them getting a little bit more out of this trade.

  2. While I liked Matta, I understand the business side of things and when you have 2 huge $10 mil contracts on aging stars you have to make sacrifices in other places to keep under the cap.

  3. We got some good cap space now to bring in someone of significance. Next buyout Zack Smith and it’s lookin good. Liked Maatta, former London Knight, but we have too many good d coming up and need that cap space.

  4. Don't mind this move at all as a Kings fan. Might have some meaning for the expansion draft later. SC Experience, shores up the left side, we have the cap space, pretty safe move IMO. Most likely makes Joakim Ryan expendable as a UFA anyway. Mikey Anderson looks to have a spot unless he loses it to someone in camp. Now I'm just wondering if we let Hutton go too and give Bjornfot, Clague or Brickley the shot to replace him this season. I'd say Brickley if its a 7th spot or if Bigfoot plays well with Doughty in camp….. All positive things.

  5. oh yeah…props on the Burger King jersey! I have one myself, ugly at the time, now a classic.

  6. The Hawks are desperate for cap space, and Maatta didn’t have a great year in Chicago. Though the Hawks need all the help they can get on defense, Maatta didn’t seem to thrive in their system, so I have to say this trade is good for the Hawks.

  7. As a hawks fan I’m really happy about this trade. Not only do we get cap space but we also leave a spot for Ian Mitchell to slot right in.

  8. Any Kings fan who is excited about this trade has obviously never seen Maatta play a whole game lately… definite win for the Hawks

  9. The blackhawks made that trade cuz they thought it was for brendan Morrison, and we all know that bowman loves to bring back hawks players way past their prime

  10. Love the deal for my kings I think he can fit in well. Also a winner with penguins wont hurt at all and got the left D we need. Will he do well we shall see

  11. I liked brad Morrison on the Komets last year. He was hurt most of the year and will most likely never make it to the NHL but seemed like a great skater that looks like he needs to bulk up.

  12. I'm a Hawks fan that will NOT miss Maatta. He was good in the playoffs but I didn't really see a spark during regular season. We need someone who can play in both situations. Not sure we got that in the trade, but we'll find out.

  13. Fine deal for the Kings. If it doesn't work, expose him in the expansion (instead of Walker or Roy), if it does work, they have a good problem and can use one their many picks and young players to steer Seattle toward taking a forward.

  14. Maatta was really good for the last part of the season and playoffs, but too much money for a bottom pairing guy. Gonna miss him but not his cap hit.

  15. As a hawks fan I love it. Maata wasn't horrible and he actually really shined during our short playoff run but we need the cap space more. Kubalik is gonna cost more than expected and we need a goalie, probably gotta sign strome and caggiula as well.

  16. I played against Brad Morrison in Peewee. We were undefeated in 49 games and played him in the first game of round robin at provincials. Morrison scored 7 goals and 2 assists in a 9-5 barn burner. Every time he scored he jumped into the bench to celebrate with the entire team. (We went on to win provincials, they lost out in the semi finals). That was the only game we lost all season. Not to brag but I had a goal and assist and went 4/4 on faceoffs against Morrison (but -2)

  17. As a Kings fan I don't know too much about this player except I remember Pens fans always complaining about his speed.

  18. Mostly a Cap Move, but also frees up a roster spot:
    Keith – Murphy (LD/RD)
    De Haan (LD/RD) – Boqvist
    Carlsson – Seabrook
    Seeler – Mitchell
    Beaudin – Regula
    Kalynuk
    Gilbert

Plus Koekkoek who is a RFA who might be singed to a team friendly, and long shots like McCoshen, Krys, Tuulola.

Note: these are not my suggestions of pairings, and they are not in a real order (i.e. Beaudin has pasted Seeler on the depth chart, although Seeler might see games Beaudin will not for several reasons), just a list of players that will be in the line up, and those who will be battling for that #6, and #7 spot.

  19. This allows the Kings to protect Doughty, Roy, Walker (and potentially) Clague from the expansion draft. Maata will most likely be the exposed defenseman.

  20. I really did enjoy Maatta on the Hawks for a year, but between Kubalik, Strome, and Crawford I have to imagine Chicago is trying to figure out exactly who they need to move where to get at least two of the three back

  21. As a Hawks fan Im happy with this deal. My wife is a Kings fan so she can have him and Ill take the prospect and cap space.
