Patriots lose to Bears on MNF, Belichick pulls Mac Jones for Bailey Zappe | NFL | FIRST THINGS FIRST

New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick said he told both Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe to be ready to play against the Chicago Bears last night. Jones got the start, but quickly was replaced by Zappe early in the second quarter after he threw an interception. Belichick said the interception did not have anything to do with the benching. Zappe led the team to two quick touchdowns to take the lead but followed it up with two interceptions in the 33-14 loss. Nick Wright, Chris Broussard and Kevin Wildes discuss.

  1. KW is actually my favorite person on this show – and he is actually hilarious to laugh WITH (unlike Nick which we just laugh AT) and Brous is the elder statesman, bringing knowledge and cred to the crew. But I admit I couldn’t wait to tune in and see KW squirm with his “baby goat” BS. Keep head high KW! We all make mistakes but love your takes (and I’m a Pats hating Bills fan)

  2. I know nick is just being a troll that’s his persona it’s cool but Wilde’s looks actually upset when nick said he never believed in Zappe lol that’s tough

  3. I'm glad people are finally seeing the real Baily Zappe. This kid threw 40 picks in 37 games at in college. He isn't some kind of diamond in the rough. He's 6 foot nothing, can't throw over the d line, and he has a noodle arm. He won 2 games against Detroit and the Browns where the defense basically pitched a shutout. You see what happens when the other team is up and can play back. I'm not saying Mac is elite, but we need to stop this Baily Zappe savior nonsense. It's ridiculous.

  4. The NE Patriots now have to deal with the truth of their team: Bilichek isn´t the guru everyone thought he was!!! He lucked up on drafting Brady and rode that wave for over 20 years and now it is clear that he hasn´t a clue how to get back to the playoffs, not to mention the Superbowl!!!!!! Truth is the light!!!

  5. I feel like BB will work more with Zappe. I believe Mac may have done something by now pushing back against what BB and the Pats are doing in his second year as a QB in the NFL

  6. Bears wouldn't convert all those first downs if the Patriots defense wasn't on the field the entire game getting gased early because of the offense but Bailey Zappe looks way better then mac Jones right now

  7. Bill needs Mac in there, period. He mentally castrated the franchise QB on the national stage.

  8. Dude has bad Ankle! Belicheck gave him an opportunity based on dude’s self assessment. No prob. Zippy demonstrates what everybody except Wilde’s understands. Fans got a great show and they will be back for more.

  9. i was at tom brady’s game last game vs the titans and pats fans booed him at the end and said he sucks 🤣🤣 pats fans are the worst in football

  10. The logic of this game comes down to that the Bears were going to win no matter who played quarterback for the Patriots. It's a Patriots loss, which means they were not going to go undefeated for the remainder of the season. That delusion, if anyone had it, was put to bed Monday night.

For the parts Zappe and Mac played in the loss, they played like exceptionally good college quarterbacks. They are 7 months apart in age, and both started playing in college in 2018, where they each had his own brand of glory days. They tried to play with a 23-24-year-old college swag against an NFL team just waiting for them. The turnovers were so hard to watch but hard to look away from, like 3 hours of an ugly car accident you cannot take your eyes off.

That's not Belichick's fault per se. If he expected his game plan to win, then playing both quarterbacks ends up looking clever if this happens. He called the game as if his team were going to win. So, if his teams loses, who cares how and by how much. He played to win.

There were problems with other aspects of the game. But if the QBs would have simply stopped underestimating a pro defense, and over-estimating their gifts, or even just one of them, the game could have been kept close.

With Belichick being non-communicative, it will take some years to pass before we find out why, if he was going to simply alternate QBs in getting another W, why then, with the game close, did he not bring out Jones to start the 2nd half.

  11. The definition of “prisoner of the moment”

This is a rookie QB and a 2nd year QB.

They both need more reps and won’t have a feel for another year or two years before we see what they can possibly become.

  12. This show is unwatchable anymore….. FS1 was doing phenomenal when cris Carter was on here, Nick wright was bareable back then….. Wilds is ok but a little cringe corney…. Nick has become a over spoken sensationalist….. I gotta go back to ESPN

  13. It's the lack of a good qb coach and oc period!! You want proof!!?? Daniel Jones!!, that would be his stats right now with that coaching staff around him, there's no qb friendly coaches for either qb on the Pats to learn from right now and Bill isn't one for qb nurturing so 🤷‍♂️ it should be interesting.

  14. Haha man..was i waiting for this i knew Wilds had something crazy but ya it was a bad idea to play both QBs i would of stuck with Zappe.

  15. I was absolutely dreaming of this segment while the Pat's were crashing and burning 🔥 😂😂😂

  16. Mac just isn't good. Never had any special in him besides Alabama Alma mater and amazing college team. Measurables are 5to6/10

  17. Bill is SABOTAGING in his PETTY way like always. Or should I say LIKE IN THE PHILLY BOWL ?????

  18. " legend " . Bill's been carried. And now he's exposed like all frauds ( Brady, Rodgers, etc. ).
