  1. Crosby is a canadian legend, he will always be a legend and he will always be considerd one of the best players to ever lace up th skates. He changed but he is still that guy

  2. The silver lining is that he evolved into a more complete player post-concussions. His game would’ve evolved any way, but during the back-to-back cup runs he was just as dominant, though less flashy, more grindy

  3. Die hard Pens fan from the 80s.
I'm so proud of Crosby. He had his career in doubt then came back and DOMINATED the game and won Cups.
It was a shame that he had that concussion but it worked out well for us.
Crosby has also had No Protection or Bodyguards out there to help protect him. He's taken plenty of dirty shots in his career aswell.
Cheers and Bravo to number 87.

  4. I’m a flyers fan, after going through the Lindros concussions in the late 90’s, I remember feeling terrible for Sid. The time away from the game was vital to him returning to his no doubt first ballot hall of fame career! Glad he had the people around him to shut it down while he recovered. Even though I can’t stand the Pens, I’ll always be a big Crosby fan. The game is always better when the best players are playing the game.

  5. You are so correct here. Crosby was set to be on one of those short lists of greats who won multiple Art Ross, Hart and Conn Smythe trophies, but concussions stripped him to being "merely" a great player, admittedly with a penchant for big goals. We, his fans, and of course, he himself were robbed of peak Crosby. And with peak Ovechkin occurring at the same time, it could have been as exciting as Gretzky and Lemieux (another superstar impacted by injuries) playing at the same time

Not that this solves the problem, but that first hit on Crosby was a Matt Cooke type of hit. It should have earned around a 40 game suspension, but of course, in Bettman's world concussions are part of the fun. Bettman who likely couldn't skate from the center dot to the bench.

  6. I have so many memories of Crosby. I took my deep dive into hockey at 18 or 19 (I was a fan but became obsessed when I moved away from home and stopped playing) right around the time when his injury trouble started. I watched the Golden Goal (thanks Iggy). My uncle was a Nova Scotian rink rat and I remember him coming to visit the Christmas the year before Crosby's first WJCs and him talking about how he'd never seen a player like him before. I also remember Cindy Crysby phase where it was cool to dislike him. Or thinking he would be out of the NHL before he hit 30 with the nature of his injuries. To see how he adjusted his game to maintain a certain level of dominance, how he improved everyone around him… his pure awareness and knowledge of all 20,000sq ft of the rink… and how it has led him to still be a force who can play at 35 is wild. It'll be sad when he retires but I can't wait to see him as a coach of some sort. He really defined how a lot of people around my age grew up with hockey.

  7. As an Oilers fan I've got to say McDavid clearly learned the lessons of Crosby. Its tragic all the talent that was wasted with Crosby's injuries and it was really noticeable that after McDavid got his big injury he completely changed his play style to prevent future injuries like what ruined Crosby and Bobby Orr's (his agent at the time) careers.

  8. The golden goal… all my friends hated Sid with a burning passion, he was (and still is) my favourite player. In that moment in Feb 2010, he was everyone’s favourite player

  9. I understand there’s risk in playing professional sports. But teams, coaches, athletes, refuse to learn the lesson that’s so obvious to the rest of us: players need to be protected from themselves. When they take these knee wobbling hits, they need to be sat, not rushed back into the fray. Tua Tagovailoa is the most recent example that comes to mind. Although, it seems like the Panthers protected Tkachuk, so maybe the lesson is starting to sink in.

  10. If you compare them, McDavid is definitely the better pure goal scorer. Crosby was better rounded already at the same point in their career, but he also played with a better overall team – Crosby didn’t have the same pressure to be “the guy”, playing with bums.

The biggest difference in my mind is that McDavid will never win a cup in Edmonton, if the team’s management can’t figure out how to build a team around him. Defence, goaltending, grit…Edmonton lacks all those things where Pittsburgh did not.

McDavid will surpass most of the greats in time, I’m sure. Crosby was the complete package though, and he made his entire team better.

  11. Why doesn't everyone understand these were NOT concussions. This video is false. He had a nerve issue in his neck, they thought it was a concussion but they were wrong. I thought this was well known. He has ZERO history of concussions. He had a nerve injury in the back of his neck from the Steckel hit. Yes it was tragic because he missed games, but let's get the injury right.
