Forget your rumour, either they knew McLeod was a 60% faceoff artist or they didn't, when New Jersey made him a UFA. And what's worse, his rate was 1.4 mil and he handled 1000 faceoffs over the past year. That's how McLeod valued his skill set, 1.4.

Petterson is not a bad contract
The problem isn't the contract amount and length for the Red Wings. It is probably that Detroit isn't offering enough to the Senators for Debrincat. The Wings have no one, other than Larkin who could replace Debrincat on the Senators. I don't think Yzerman wants to give up prospects. So it is either Ottawa accepts draft picks alone, or there is no trade. Another team will probably trade for Debrincat.

Stevie y is playing hardball because detroit is the only place the cat really really wants to go. He shouldn't blow this tho because this is the first time since like 2001 when Brett Hull signed in Detroit. That was probably the last time a player of a superior caliber wanted to come here. I'm not comparing to Hull. Definitely not. Just comparing situations.
