Per Bill Meltzer, unless Matvei Michkov re-signs in the KHL at some point, he’ll be over by training camp 2026. But getting him over here before then would be a huge challenge for a variety of reasons. So, it’s probably better if he stays.

Michkov not being able to come over until 2026 sets up the *perfect* window for this team. He will still be 21 so he’ll still be eligible for a 3 year length on his ELC, and with 3 more years of pro experience until his belt he has the potential to step in as a top line forward immediately once he gets here. Having a player that cheap for 3 years is an enormous advantage for a team trying to compete, so Briere needs to try and set that as the target year for contention.

Huge challenge, why is the NHL so soft when it comes to this?
I get that it may be a preference for us to want him to stay there but as far as it being challenging to get him so what, do it if you want him

I obviously wanna see him earlier but this makes the most sense. Having him on an elc until he’s 24 is insane. Then sign him to 8 years and he’s 32. It’s honestly probably the smartest route but I still wanna see him sooner because I’m eager
