Let’s do this! The Cult of Hockey podcast. By the Faithful and for the Faithful, tonight with Bruce McCurdy and David Staples. They dig into the trade of Kailer Yamamoto and Klim Kostin to Detroit and the strong possibility the Oilers will sign Connor Brown.

  1. It sucks to lose Kostin, he was an AHLer before he arrived in Edmonton. Let's see what Det sign him for before we speculate how much he asks for.
Yamamoto is injury prone with his size and playing style.

  2. Kostin moved himself out by asking for too much. In the long run that Russian style of hard haggling may land him in the KHL making the same or less money than he would have gotten here.

  3. Lost Kostin?? Wow, that is not at all a good thing. Kostin was a very valuable player who could play 2nd line a lot better then Yamo or Foegle. Kostin is far more valuable then those 2 together and more valuable then Mcloud. I Think Holland just really F'ed this up. It means they are so money strapped they cannot improve the team. 90% of that fatal flaw is on that horrible Campbell deal. Wow… This is not just a serious loss, it's a horrible sign for the oncoming season.

  4. Finally Yamamoto is gone! Two or three years overdue. Now you guys don't have to tie yourselves up in knots trying to come up with reasons to compliment the guy. He just didn't cut it
I am really sorry to see us lose Kostin. spirited and swaggering.

  5. It sucks that you work hard to assemble a decent team but you can’t afford to keep them. Who does the cap benefit anymore? The Coyotes?

  6. Sad to see kostin go but glad to get rid of Yammo and and his $3.1 million.

  7. Bruce if Yamo had scored another 20 we would have easily moved him for something tangible. The CAP space alone is worth the move

  8. When i was a kid my stepdad cooked my guinea pig and made me eat it. My mom thiught it was funny at first and assured me id been tricked. I showed her the bones id picked completely clean and lost it

  9. I know all the reasons, but sad to see Yamamoto go…I followed him from Spokane and was really hoping the Oilers would take him in the 2017 draft. I wish him the best in Detroit, and hope Bison King can make a recovery back.

  10. It is what it is. When you got McDavid and draistle locked in for a billion dollar each what do you expect is gonna happen. Anyways go oilers go

  11. I assure everyone Klim wanted close to 2 for 3. No way Oilers can do that. Not sure Detroit signs him. Enjoy tge KHL and Russia. 😆

  12. To me fantilli was the best puck there!…I hope bedard works out for the hawks as we have heard before about these so called generational players that haven’t worked out so there is a lot of pressure on that kid!…I like fantilli because he has a good size!

  13. Can Lavoie make Oil Country forget about Kostin?
Not losing McLeod and Bouche to offer sheets will be the big splashy move this off-season for Holland.

  14. It's the NHL, players move on for various reasons. All the best and thanks for the good moments:
    – the DNY line's glory days, and a lot of pretty plays and goals by Yamo
    – Kostin's fights, goals and early interviews with Edmonton media
    – Jesse being crowned Bison King and his pizza eating

  15. Kenny got Klim for nothing and couldn't resign him and were going to lose him anyways, so good move to get rid of Yamo's contract.

  16. David, I just read your article in the Edmonton Journal saying it's a no-brainer to bring back Yamamoto at 1 million. I enjoy your commentary and Analysis here but, oh my God, I lost my s*** when I read that. We finally got rid of him, don't say it's a no-brainer to bring him back my God. He's an underperformer even at 1 million and he's too small for the playoffs. He should not be on the roster taking up space and oxygen from me haha!

  17. Maybe we can sign Brown, pump his stats and then trade him to Detroit to get Kostin back and they retain 70% of his salary or whatever it takes to get him back at around 1m cap hit

  18. I believe that Lavoie has the ability to replace Kostin, especially his offensive game!!! If Lavoie comes into Oilers camp bigger, stronger, faster and in the best shape of his life he will become an indispensable right-winger for the Oilers!!!

  19. Once in a while you get a real good feeling about a player and for me that player was Klim Kostin!!! I'm really upset over this deal !!! I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it !!!✌😊
