  1. The way they drafting and the deal players and the trades they made so far it’s gonna take 30 years to build a good team they should be fired immediately Before it gets any worse

  2. Thank you coach for your clear words. Once a Habs fan, forever and always a Habs fan. Go Habs, go. Greetings from Meran, South Tyrol, Europe.

  5. This was a "safe" pick by HABS management, Michkov was more high risk high reward. Looks like they couldn't pull the trigger on the risk factor.

  7. I 110% agree with you 1970's habs were built from the goalie out it takes at least 3 yrs for a defenseman to mature and 2yrs for a forward. I have complete faith in Hughes and Gorton, there batting 100 % so far!!!

  8. Michkov is smaller than Druan can you imagine when Ben or Lucic or Shen hit this Russian Runt???

  9. Admittingly I was disappointed with the Habs pick but I thank you HNLS for the deep dive into the reasons why they chose Reinbacher

  10. Relax coach, the sole reason the Habs exist is to make money for the shareholders, and how do you do that? By the fans who pay hard earned money and expect them to produce a great product. If your favorite restaurant keeps serving bad meals, do you still eat there and spend your money there because of loyalty or because you like the waiter? Your a great coach, but not a businessman and hockey is a business. Have you ever wonder why teams move? Because they produce a inferior product that people don't want. I am still a Habs fan, but I wont be renewing my ESPN hockey subscription this year. Instead I will watch my local team, the Tampa Bay Lighting for free. If they become competitive again I will be back, until I'll spend my money elsewhere.

  11. Im ok with picking this type of player but not in this draft. This is our last pick before we start picking 12th to 20th. This was a chance to go after a potential superstar. Its an ok pick and might pan out i just worry in 20 years we look back and say… damn why didnt we take a chance at some offense… still trusting the plan! Ghg.

  12. To win, you need 4 quality D. Finding a big, mobile, 20 min RHD with skill is extremely hard to find. We also need a very specific player profile to play with Hutson and Reinbacher is the perfect fit. I don't agree with Hutson and Mailloux pairing. Mailloux is very offensive and that line would be a liability. Guhle-Mailloux and Hutson-Reinbacher is a better fit in my opinion.

  13. Great comments. I was a bit confused and still not sure, but I trust Hughes and Gorton. Look at last years draft results, ok too early to tell for sure but. Slaf was the best of the class last year and was improving well when he was injured, Lane Hudson, Owen Beck, & Jared Davidson. Yes it will take 4 or 5 years to confirm, but the initial results are great.

  14. Finally someone employing "critical thinking" around this year's draft. I admit, when the selection was made I was shocked (though I did hear some good things about Reinbacher) however after I gave it some thought, it does make sense, RHD don't come around every day. Thanks! 🙂

  15. OMG I'm probably so LATE on this, but we just picked Xhekaj's bro?!?! EVERYTHING is okay then 😀
    Seriously I love this stuff!!

As for your point about being a Habs fan, I like it that you tell it like it is. Yes I agree, we should stay behind our team, always! Bad times, good times, it's what fandom is.
BUT it doesn't help anyone when criticism isn't allowed or encouraged. As long as it is constructive though (which most of yesterday's WAS NOT, I agree!); a lot of what we heard and saw wasn't.

Fans that are so blinded by their fandom to accept ANY criticism are as bad as those who react like ANIMALS (frankly) when it's not going like they wanted imho. Both are extremely toxic and immature, and a pain to deal with in general.

People need to keep in mind that as outsiders, we operate with VERY limited information. We're not there in the room when everything known about a player is compiled. So a bit of self-restrain is needed from time to time. On the other side of the subject, it's the team's job to keep people who care as informed as possible and in a timely fashion. Regarding our first pick, it's OBVIOUSLY not something that they can fully do (or should do at all in my opinion), until the draft is concluded. AT LEAST have a bit of patience people, let them explain their decision.

Personally I didn't understand their pick at first, but then got more confortable with it as I informed myself (ton video, Coach, a beaucoup aidé dans cela btw, merci!). But I knew we had an issue on that side of our future defensive core. If he can be a top 2 defenseman, it WAS the BEST decision, not a single question about it. But will he?

To be perfectly honest here, I got more annoyed by the price we paid for the trade with Colorado than our first pick. I felt our Florida first and maybe a 3rd or 4th pick should have been enough. That 3rd pick we gave could have gone for the top rated goalie I thought. Not sure how it went (Hrabal The Mythical Giant anyone? :P), BUT I can now see that they picked FOWLER with their 69th pick, which is probably the most well rounded goalie prospect of this draft year. It was important to pick one of the top rater goalie imho, and it's what they did at the end of the day 😀
As for what we got from the trade, he's already a roster player, perfect age, and definitely someone that could become a great player with our coaching style and HUGE space to flourish that a competing team like Colorado couldn't afford to give him.
I think he's going to become a fan favorite, but we'll see.

So putting everything into perspective, I must say; Hughes and his team REALLY have a vision and they won't let anyone scare them into doing something just for "good press", or for short term gains.
The last admin would have gutted the team and overpaid PLD (probably…), and I'm happy that the our new management didn't and how much they are committed into a REAL rebuild.

    Louie.

  16. Everybody agree the best player in the draft was Conor Bedard, the second was Matvei Michkov. but because he play in Russia , because his father died mysterisously in Russia. 5 teams (ANA, CBJ, SJS, MTL, ARI) passed on him and pick another player instead (Leo Carlsson with ANA, Adam(o) Fantilli with CBJ, Will Smith with SJS, David Reinbacher RD with MTL and Dimitriy Shimashev LD. Normally i understand ANA and CBJ to pass Over but Mike Grier (SJS) fucked up and pass over Mitchkov. MTL was supposed to pick WIll Smith who was gone who is next on the list David Reinbacher and ARI have plenty forward went for the 6'4" LD Dmitryi Simachev. Philly after passing on Cole Caufield in 2019 if that happened again you can bet you sweet little ass ain't not going to happen again they pick Mitchkov.

  17. Coach love man..❤….but ur wrong…Lenard would have mega huge difference up front…Washington scored…not enough lipstick on the island of Montréal to make this pig look pretty….honey moon's over big time😢

  18. If I remember correctly. the previous 5th overall pick, Carey Price was said to be a stupid pick at the time. people calling for Bob Gainey to be fired. and look how he turned out. Maybe pick #5 is cursed to make the habs fan not like this pick

  19. Reinbacher is essentially another Guhle, which is great. Along with Hutson and Mailloux Habs are now set up to have a top-4 D-corp that will be the envy of the NHL for years to come. Great pick by Hughes!

  20. Coach, so there's 100 percent no chance of not making the playoffs, I have a feeling we make the playoffs, anything is possible, I like this team,if we stay healthy maybe we make the playoffs

  21. From day one, I didn't want Michkov, a one way winger with a lot of red flags both on and off the ice. As the situation was with the players already picked, I was hoping for Leonard. A gritty aggressive forward who can score, make plays, win battles, carry the puck up the ice offer defensive support, a 200 foot game and more. These players too are hard to acquire.

Reinbacher is a projected second pairing Dman with a limited offense side, Hughes said so himself. He won't be pointing the 1st PP line. He's 6'2" listed as much as 194 lbs and low as 185 lbs, might fill out to over 200lbs and what he does offer is some physicality, good positioning defending the rush and Dzone, defending the front of the net, cutting off lanes, getting pucks to teammates and out of the Dzone….at the same time he's 18 with room to expand his offensive side and become that 1st pairing guy, a thing Hughes wisely chose not to say because there's no guarantees.

There's still an element of disappointment in my eyes because there is still a problem with forwards with scoring, defensive support and effective compete in all 3 zones, forechecking and backchecking. Future drafts for Montreal, between where they pick and what type of players are available may not offer what his draft did. That means they'll have to trade, which will cost a top player(s) + prospect(s) and a big paycheck. NJ picked a Dman in the previous draft where that choice was just as good as what that draft had to offer. Arizona isn't known for stellar achievements. Nonetheless, Montreal has solidified their Dcore as well as 3 goalie prospects.

Their most interesting pick in my eyes is Jacob Fowler. High hockey IQ for reading plays, excellent lateral movement, stays square to the puck, athleticism, big guy at over 220 lbs…18 yrs old, needs to work on glove hand, skating and quickness, lots of time for that. 1.36 GAA and .952 SV% in his league's playoffs, 2.28 and .921 in the regular season. Plays for Boston College this upcoming season, a good place to develop. Seemed happy to be picked by the habs and has family in Quebec.

Personally, I would have gambled a trade this season or a pick in next year's draft for a RD and taken an offensive talent available in this one but it is what it is now. They got their RD now and Hughes needs to pull a rabbit out of his hat to solidify two top scoring lines balanced with an offense that can be effective in all 3 zones. Trading will cost top players/prospects, you don't get something for nothing outside the draft…and no guarantees.

If Reinbacher was projected to be a 1st pairing Dman with more offensive talent than he has the 5th overall pick would be justified for a RD. Hughes said he was not picking a position, he/they were picking the best player available. He lied. Even Price didn't want to announce it. Just my opinion. Reinbacher will be a good RD and always possible he develops into more than projected and lives up to his ranking. Another European that will have to adjust to a narrower rink and faster game. Not the fastest skater.

I don't like the Newhook deal.
