What Jake Muzzin’s injury update means for the Toronto Maple Leafs going forward



The Toronto Maple Leafs provided clarity on Jake Muzzin’s status for the rest of the season and it isn’t the best of news for the veteran. Mike DiStefano and David Morassutti give their thoughts on what Muzzin being ruled out for the season means for him going forward and also provide some clarity on the Leafs cap situation with him out. Now with Muzzin ruled out, Mike and Dave believe it confirms the team’s need to add a defenceman who can provide similar traits to what Muzzin brought to the lineup and debate if there are any options on the trade market who can provide that. To end the show, Mike and Dave discuss the decision to waive Joey Anderson and if that means another potential move is coming and look at the two trades that happened between the Senators-Blackhawks and Golden Knights-Coyotes.

    Soucy would be the best possible defenceman that I think the leafs could bring in to replace muzzin and what he brought

    There is no Holl figures it out. Holl is what he is. A good 5D or a 4D who can play with a great Dman who helps cover his mistakes.

    I don't see a lot of D men available that would move the needle. I don't know if there are any that the Leafs could afford.

    Muzzin being out all year the worst kept secret we basically knew already.

    Need to use that space to either replace holl or engvall…. Need a forward on third line who can score AND throw it down when needed. Or a true top 4 and shift down for defensive depth

    Can the Leafs get a goalie who doesn't get hurt like every 2-3 weeks and a top 3 defenseman by the time the playoffs begin 🤔

    Hall is strong in front of the net, but makes mental mistakes. Lilljegren is developing into a fine 2 way defenceman, but is still not quite strong in front of his own net. He is better on the third pairing for these playoffs. If they could bring in an Ekblad to play in Halls place, they would be in good shape. Morgan Reilly is an ace offensive defenseman, but his defence if very weak. Too bad, maybe he has to be moved for someone more complete and with greater presence in his own end.

    Can't the Leafs just pass the cap? There are teams that have been doing that forever. I believe they would pay a fine, the Leafs
    org has money.

    Travis hamonic- 3 mil
    Vlad gavrikov- 2.8
    Jordan oesterle- 1.35
    Troy stetcher- 1.25
    Jake walman- 1.05
    TVR- 950k

    Not too many great options available that are feasible for the leafs.
