I hope they go long term with dube, I rly like his playing style.

Also praying he has nothing to with the whole team canada situation.

I love Dube but I really hope we don’t overpay him

I hope they let him walk. Rebuild rebuild rebuild. Hes gonna ask for waayyy to much

The problem with Dube is that he’s never broken out yet. Paying him anything over 4.25 – 4.5 mil would be an overpay. I love his speed and skill but I hope he’s in for a breakout year this coming season

I like Dube but if we pay him anything over $3.5 million (and that’s honestly generous) then we fucked up. He had a career high in points last year but let’s not forget how he disappeared completely in the playoffs the year before. One point in twelve games. He hasn’t broken twenty goals once, though I believe he will this year.

We should be paying him for the level he’s at right now, not the potential he has if he breaks out.

Dube is steadily improving, but has only barely passed 0.5 points per game once (last year). His contribution defensively is notable though, so if he keeps his steady climb on both aspects, 4×4 could be a great deal.

We’ll also see about the team Canada stuff. Really hoping he wasn’t but if he was involved, jail time would be a lot more appropriate…

Pleeeeeeease just don’t be involved in the sexual assault scandal. Also glad to hear Kylington is doing better and should be back this season!

If they think Dube can still break out, it’d be smart to sign him longterm right now, e.g. a 6 to 8 year deal at 4-5M per. Because if he does “pop” next year and gets 60+ points, then that cap number increases significantly, especially with the cap expected to jump up.

If you want to succeed in the cap world, then the goal isn’t to pay fair market value to players after they’ve already broken out. It’s to lock them up longterm before that point – see Jack Hughes (not a direct comparison obviously) in New Jersey for example. Actually Rasmus Andersson is probably a better example. Guessing lots thought his 4.5M cap hit was an overpay initially – now it’s a steal for a top pairing defenseman.

For Dube I would do 4 million AAV x 8 years. The Flames absolutely have to get in on the trend of signing younger guys to long term deals that provide some value for the team. A bridge deal would not be good.
