Trading Kubalik who is an ok player but inconsistent is preferable to trading one of our younger guys imo
These guys are way overvaluing Kuby. He is not elite. A big reason he had a 45 point year is Bert was out all year and he had to play a role bigger and than his skill. Also 22 of his points were before December 1. Think about that!

There was a cost to getting cat. But I think you’re forgetting the big picture. Kub is making 2.5 mill for this year only. If they resign him after next year there will be a considerable more cost. They have the cat locked up long term.and he is a considerable better player. No term on Kub. Wings arnt winning the cup next year either
Kubalik was not part of the redwings future they didn't have to give up one of the top prospects or or any top player on the current roster

A lot of Wings fans are incredibly butthurt about their take which is astonishing to me. They didn't say they wouldn't have made this trade or that the Wings aren't the winners of the trade. All they said was that they think it would have been smarter to give up a prospect than a proven NHL player in Kubalik. Will someone like Kasper or Berggren be better than Kubalik? Maybe, but that's a current hypothetical. They will not add more value to the Wings this upcoming season than Kubalik would have, so I don't see how this isn't a valid topic.

We traded a streaky 20 goal scorer, prospect who was buried deep in the system, and kept all of our draft picks and prospects. We also signed a 40 goal scorer to a team friendly deal. What’s not to like? Kubalik on a great year is Debrincat on a bad year on a bad team.
