Blake gets my vote this round!
Another great debate guys, cheers!! šš»
Trade him
Give a thumb's up if you think Blake Price (trade Myers) won the debate!
Give a thumb's up if you think Matt Sekeres (keep Myers) won the debate!
One more year with him is the way
I will say on a personal level, I agree with Price and hope they find a way to move Myers without paying a price. However, I have to give it to Sekeres based on the argument. I also love these segments, wish we had them more often haha š
If we're talking about trading before the season starts, then it's Sekeres and keep Myers for the win, because of how this mess of a contract is structured and the timing is bad for trades when teams have already sorted out their rosters. I'm wondering if the Canucks can't do what some teams did at the last deadline and trade part of Myers' salary for this season plus a 3rd round pick for future considerations to a team with some cap space to weaponize. The Canucks would get some cap relief and retain a player that played longer minutes than they should have, but be more effective in sheltered minutes.
Matt won this debate in my opinion but it was close. Also I loved listening to this debate. Keep up the good work guys.
i liked blake's arguement. love to know how we become cap compliant?
Sekeres by a landslide
Price wins! I'm tired of the Tyler Myers debate!! Quit talking about him from a cap perspective only and tell it like is —– Myers is a boat anchor and a floater who is dragging down the Canucks. Grossly over-paid and grossly over-rated! Check out his terrible stats and they speak for themselves. This guy is heading for retirement and is only showing up to collect a paycheque. Myers has ZERO incentive to improve his play to help the team — NONE. With Myers on the blue line, the Canucks will be stuck in Groundhog Day once again. Canucks need youth and determination and a real winning attitude right now —- Myers has NONE of these positive points. .
Keep
Blade gets my vote on this debate.
For a guy who is 6"6 never uses his size.. its a joke
When he dumped the puck IN 3V3 OT and went off on a change, I realized that he's not a NHL calibre defenseman.
shouldn''t it be a winger that gets moved??
Myers out! Can't have guys in the room playing for 3x what they're worth. The young guys on entry level money don't need to see that. They've gotten rid of the $8+M dollar guy that can't bring it anymore. Finish the job and do Myers too. Bring a hungry guy in. He doesn't have much left even in a contract year.
I got Sekeres here.
Disagree that we canāt replace him within our org. Juulsen brings more value than Myers.
Sekeres is right and thereās no doubt about it!
Unload Myers asap
Matt took this one!
Tyler Myers should not even be playing in nhl level. He is not even worth a one million contract to be honest
Trade him if possible. They can do better for less money. Or get a better pick in 2024.
I know they r working w him. I dont think team canada would've pick him if he was that bad. And he performed fine for canada. I think he was in a shitty D system (no system specifically) on the canucks last season. Many D are used to a tight system, i know i did when i played D, i always knew where to be. So Lets see what we have under the new regime…he may very well shine.
Keep him till the trade deadline
canucks might just have to knee-cap a few of their own players (like tanya harding did to nancy kerrigan) to LTIR some guys & get more cap space
Like the debate. Cap hit aside, i think Myers is finally in a position that he fits, 3rd pairing that can cover top 4 mins for a time in case of injuries.
As I live nine time zones away, I often wonder when the podcast is released. It usually seems to be quite late over here on Spotify.
Only teams near the bottom could take on that cap hit right now, which means that the Canucks would probably lose some sort of draft pick. The player mentioned from San Jose doesn't seem promising. A good club might need a bit of depth, but would the salary coming back be productive? Seems unlikely. They have enough young depth defencemen to replace Myers, so the question is moot — they would if they could. There is, however, a scenario in which they do trade him at the deadline, when his hit has come down, even if they are competitive, quite simply because they wouldn't need him that badly.
