I think Slafkovsky is on the second line with Newhook and Dach at Center. If Juraj isn’t going to be playing top 6 minutes with power play time then he should be in the AHL next season because he should be like Jack Hughes and play Top 6 minutes no matter what and let him figure it out… It’s the only way Juraj will get better if he’s playing top 6 minutes with players that can think the game as well as he can… Juraj Slafkovsky last season in December got the chance to play top 6 minutes and he had 5 points in 7 games while playing with Dach/Monahan…. When Juraj played with players that can’t think like he can he didn’t do that well and it’s hard to play with players that can’t think like you and your still getting use to North American Ice…. Slaf has way better hockey IQ then Gallagher, Dvorak, Pezzetta, Hoffman and Armia and when your playing with players like that while not use to the North American ice it will slow you down and make you look lost…. Every time he played with players that can think like he can he looked great and didn’t look lost… I think this would be another massive mistake in his development if they give him Bottom 6 minutes again, he should only be playing Top 6 minutes and if not then he should be in the AHL playing top 6 minutes down there with Joshua Roy, Emil Hienaman, Riley Kidney, Jan Mysak and other prospects like that. TOP 6 FOR JURAJ IN THE NHL! OR TOP 6 IN THE AHL! Anything less would be failing him in his development and turning him into a bust which would be really unfortunate if Montreal ruined his development because his ceiling is very special…..
I'd like to see Newhook compliment Dach's game, I could see him on the second line next to Dach, and maybe Slafkovskys style would fit into that. We do have a problem with too many center positions, I don't think it's ideal to rotate Dvorak, Monahan, and Evans in the bottom six every night,, plus freeing up one of those spots would make it easier to throw Newhook at center from time to time.
Yes I still think we paid a bit much for him, at first and a 4th would have been enough imho, but if he establishes himself as a good top 6 player it was worth it anyway!
Here's a thought Put Dvorak up on the wing with Suz & Caufield. Hear me out. Dvo has certainly not played to expectations or contract, but many still think he has a lot more to give, so while we have this luxury of C's get him some top line purely offensive minutes. Take away the pressure of always D first and let them run. Also, it will help Suz work on his face-offs with Dvo as his backup. I believe Dvo is a bit under appreciated for what he brings and I'd like to see him just let go and play. Cauf-Suz-Dvo Newh-Dach-Anderson Slav-Mnhn-Gally …???
The best case scenario is to have Kirby Dach as a second center, and not Newhook. What do you prefer, a second center like Kirby Dach, or a second center like Newhook? I think Newhook will be a winger top six, or our futur third center.
Been a Habs fan for over 50 years. When are the Canadiens going to get some REAL GOAL SCORERS!!!! I point out, they have not had a 50 goal scorer since Stephane Richer. They haven't had 100 point scorer since Mats Naslund. That is a REALLY LONG TIME AGO. Enough of these 2nd and 3rd line players and calling them 1st line guys. GET SOME REAL GOAL SCORERS!!!
I agree newhook will get a good look on the top line but ultimately see them rolling suzuki, caufield, anderson. Line 2 dach, monahan newhook. 3rd line dvorak Gallagher and harvey pinard. 4th line evans hoffman pezzetta. Xforward ylonen. Both slaf and farrell start and need big minutes in laval.
