In this video, I take an in-depth look at new Maple Leafs forward as compared to his peers over in the KHL and then talk about how he fits into next year’s team!
I like using these international tournaments when watching KHL players. They obviously have their own limitations but seeing Barabanov against NHL talent is valuable.
I like Barabanov's work off the puck. He's agile and willing to find holes in order to get open. pic.twitter.com/LYRNitAJV4

Great video again Steven…..love your energy as usual…I don't mind this signing as it's only for a year….can't be any worse than what we have in minors….I saw a lot of his highlights…he loves the wrap around goal for sure….do you know which side he prefers more? left or right?….Glad you mentioned the 03-04 team….we have spoken about those guys and the grit and ability to score big goals was important….Domi was also a guy that was more than a fighter…..heard Sundin once say he was the player that was in the best shape in the whole locker room….I don't think people give him credit for the player he was or could have been if he had not played the role as enforcer as much.
Great move dubas, low risk let's see what he's got!
So true about Pierre Engvall. It's frustrating the guy is not small and he doesn't want to play rough when the going gets tough. Because as it stands right now a pylon could do his job.
Found a kid on capfriendly who doesn't like Robertson playing next year, is hyping Brooks up way too much and thinks Clifford is a bad player because he takes penalties. I then proceeded to tell him he needs to stop watching youtube, just for him to tell me to start watching hockey.
It’s pretty normal for the KHL to burry a player when they know or suspect that player is leaving the league, his 2018 season is a more realistic look at what he can do, 2019 he was with lesser line mates and his minutes were down considerably. It’s a promising contract , doesn’t cost anything if he works out
I think for sure now one of johnsson kappy or kerfoot gets traded now
being skilled in the khl and the nhl are two very different things by toronto signing him they just make it harder to sign good nhl players, you mention bracco he sucks he will never be an nhl player which toronto has to many of
Dubas is overrated GM. He signed top
Players Matthews, MeLander and Marner overpaying them despite never getting out of round 1. Trade Krappy and Marincin. Sign a decent D man
This number of games played differs a lot because SKA's got like 40-ish players roster and they rotate in as they want to
Hey why is Dylan demelo on here as a leaf did I miss something? I never heard any trades or signings just curious!
Good episode! Thanks for this with this freakin pandemic on. Grrr. Go Leafs!
I keep going back and forth whether or not Barabonov plays as a consistent regular with the Leafs next season, especially with all the other additions they've made. It's clear that he has elite, NHL level skill offensively, because in his highlights he looks like a Russian version of Mitch Marner. But it's hard to find any full game footage, where one could asses his complete game entirely. And his stats in the KHL were good, but not great. Many players have done what he was able to do in the KHL, and then came over to the NHL only to fizzle out and end up on a plane back home. He's going to have to earn a roster spot with the Leafs, imo. And he needs to be able to beat out some talented NHL players in order to stick full-time. I'm not entirely sure if he can do that, even though there are clips of him making plays that only the very most dominant NHL forwards can make.
LOL and then the Leafs traded him for Antti Suomela
