It's a steal for now for the islanders but if they don't win the cup this year and Palm and Zajac walk then its the Devils who could win this depending on who they pick. The 2 guys they got, Greer could get a other shot in the NHL with the Devils as a 4th liner and the other guy is an AHL lifer who will replace a roster spot in Binghamton. People say this draft isn't that solid as previous ones but due to the pandemic scouting hasn't been the same and that could lead to some surprises in the 1st or 2nd rds.

honestly as a Tampa fan im rooting for the islanders 2nd. I gained so much respect for them after the 2020 ECF. They put up the hardest fight of any of our oponents and didn't hold back for a second until Cirelli netted the OT winner. I would really like to see them win a cup, as long as its not against Tampa lol

The Devils are two to three years from playoffs. This simply makes sense to dump some salary now to load up on those draft picks. The devils don't have the defense and goaltending to make a run anytime soon and that will take time.
As a devils fan I’m not happy about this trade. I know these guys had to go, but basically all we got is a 1st (that should be a late 1st) in a year where picks are worth much less than usual, and a 4th 2 years down the line. I feel like we could have gotten a little more, or at least an NHL level player at least
Who is going to play with Eberle/Barzal and who with JGP and Wahlstrom. Obviously, islanders got best of deal. Palmieri and Zajac each in last year of contract and Devils afraid they would lose them as UFAs and get nothing. Shane- who plays with who

Don’t see how this trade isn’t a win/win. Zajac really doesn’t get you much more than a conditional 4th and Palmieri probably gets you a first. The Devils traded two of their longest tenured players to a team that realistically could win the Cup, they don’t have to move and you acquired adequate assets in return. It’s important to remember that both players had some form of no trade clause. It’s a win/win.
