If you only look at the bubble.. It was 5 games in a totally unique situation where nobody had played in 3 months and if you look at his career as a hole he has never had a year where he didn't exceed expectations in overall game development highest scoring even strength scoring defensemen over the last 4 years and also if you cut it down to 2 years so some of young defensemen don't miss years. He's still number 1 dunno why you would take Seth Jones over nurse… nurse is a better skater better hitter roughly equivalent as a shooter and a defender his passing is weaker but that's why pairing him with Barrie worked well for the oilers
If the whole point is to get some regular season success, I can agree with this deal a bit. In playoffs, Darnell Nurse has a grand total of zero scored goals in his entire NHL-career and he has never had even a positive +/- playoff-season.
A total of 9,25M over eight years is closer to what he is worth. Not 9,25M per season.
Tbh, every defenceman in the NHL that has been signed as of late is ridiculously overpaid. Lockout inbound, because of the stupidity of GMs.
I think this Darnell Nurse is almost identical to the situation with the OEL contract when the yotes signed him

I keep getting oilers fans pissed at my screen name. I did this after the Keith trade. Holland just keeps giving me reasons not to change it again lol. As a long time Wings fan all I can say Oilers fans is demand to get rid of him fast before he fills your team with over payed players, with long term contracts, and NMC's. He was a great GM before the salary cap and before he lost his fucking mind.

The Nurse contract is also a No Trade deal, No one will ever trade for Nurse with that amount of annual Cake!!

Was hoping for 8.5 but it's a deal that had to get done if they want any chance at winning a cup in these next 4-5 years.
Nurse is a stud. I think you’re underrating him. It hasn’t been one year of good performance , he’s consistently outperformed his contracts over the last four years and took team friendly contracts during that time.
He’s been consistently in the leagues top 10 in lots of categories over the last few seasons especially at even strength. He leads the league in even strength in several categories as well.
That is despite not getting power play time (which he’s shown he can do) and despite having way more defensive zone starts than a couple players you compared him to (Jones and Werenski). I personally think he’s much better than those two players.
You can’t compare contracts with players like makar easily , the oilers were buying 8 ufa years, whereas Colorado had a lot more control with makar.
They’ve already said the cap is expected to increase next season.
Oilers are much better than they were last year and they’re looking solid for the next few years. That’s why oilers fans are defending Holland.

Say what you will about goal tending. Good enough for 7th best in the league last year. Oilers have better defence up front and on their blue line this year as well.

Remember when fans were going batshit over Leon getting 8m x 8yrs? Well, that contract keeps looking better and better. He's playing like he should be earning the max salary amount. I feel like Darnell is going to be in the same boat. He's getting better and better each year. Give it a season or two, and this deal is gonna look like a steal. Gotta keep in mind that the cap limit also goes up as well.
What would a mid 20's version of Gretzky, Orr, Howe and Lemieux be worth today? $25 million? 35?

Who the heck is Darnel Nurse? Getting paid like a superstar. Is he a top 5 NHL defenseman?
Nurse is essentially a cannon with some wheels fast,hard and will drop a bomb from blue line or rush the puck up to it but defensively you cannot expect him to look his best with defending while the Mcdavid line is out considering the top lines 3 defensive liabilities it’s gotta be a bitch to defend that
The only alternative is to have Nurse leave the team at the end of next season.
I don't think nurse is overpaid, 60+ points this year isn't what were paying for. He's a defenseman they play defense and he's a damn good one he can skate circles around any other dman his size when do you ever see that? I think he will be 1st d pairing for team canada
Nurse is overrated, can’t even count how many turnovers this guy has made in his own zone. Unfathomable to think this guy is soon going to be making more than the best blueliner Makar, it’s absurd! He’s worth 5.5M AAV at the most.
