Without knowing what they were offering it’s kinda silly to speculate

We won’t know for year what the offers actually were. Nobody trading out likely means the offers weren’t enough

So you are saying the Canucks turned down four firsts again?

We can be upset in 5 years. Until then just relax.

13 + 45 for 11. Buffalo still got their guy
crap4you
Did someone get this info from watching the draft video?

Willander clearly must have been their guy if they were hesitant to trade down two picks (with one of the picks being Benson). It says a lot that they were that hesitant in Arizona taking Willander over them.

If the offers were poor and not worth trading down for… and their guy was there at 11… I’m not understanding why this is noteworthy lol.
AppealToReason16
Everyone had trade offers for every pick. The day before the draft all the insiders wouldn’t shut up about how 31 picks were up for grabs in trade.

If your guy is there you take him. Too risky to move down even if consensus is the player will drop.
You only move down if you’re not enamoured with anyone.

My guess is that they saw Reinbacher and Simashev go way higher than expected and were worried that Willander would’ve been taken had they traded down.

Watching the BTS of the 2023 draft, I think I heard Jim say something like “If we drop 2 spots, I don’t think he is gonna be available there”.
Sounds like they felt like they needed to secure Wilander at that spot. Hopefully, that calculation pays off.

Honestly we probably could’ve traded down. Sabers wanted Benson anyway

People say this shit EVERY. FUCKING. YEAR. Doesn’t even matter if it’s the trade deadline or before the draft.

Side note, but does anyone actually think Reinbacher will end up being the best dman of this class? It seems like everyone is bullish on his upside

What is done is done get over it time to move on

Reinbacher and Simashev being drafted higher than expected probably spooked our scouts into making sure Willander was picked at the position we had.

“Elite Prospects Sources”… what, they mean that video that the Canucks literally released today where they made a decision to keep the pick and draft Willander?
