The 2016 QMJHL draft was held in Charlottetown and the Saint John Sea Dogs made 16-year old Drummondville, Quebec native Olivier Mathieu their first pick. The new Sea Dogs forward was picked 11th overall in this year’s draft. Mathieu, , had 23 goals and 50 points in 46 games last season with the Magog Cantonniers of the Quebec Midget AAA Hockey League (LHMAAAQ)
