  1. You need to trade some away. for assets in 2-3 years to prepare the cap management.

You cannot have EVERYBODY around the same age. You need to plan for the future.

Can we not trade for picks in 3 years?

  2. I'm thinking we package Christian Dvorak with Justin Barron and prospect/draft pick for William Nylander. Not realistic for a top line contributer and an all-star calibre forward. But if the Leafs are in cap crunch to keep Matthews, this might benefit the Habs

  3. If you recall, Dvorak was traded for because the Canadiens lost Danault to free agency and Kotkaniemi to the offer sheet. There was a big hole to fill and acquiring Dvorak was costly and never likely to get a similar return. However, at 4 years and 4.45 million, he was always going to moved before his contract was up in Montreal. Perhaps not this year, but at the deadline in 2025.
He's a decent 3C, this season we may finally get the chance to see him in the chair that fits his game.

  4. When you finish last in your division and you’ll probably finish last again you don’t really have a dilemma: Get rid of the losers (for anything …. Hey Vancouver needs a C!) and play the kids

  5. You put your best faceoff guys at center bc were trying to play a puck possession style of hockey and that starts with winning the faceoff and getting possession.

  6. there is no rush to trade Dvorak. we saw teams put the likes of Matt Duchene getting bought out. there's clearly a cap crunch. habs should wait for his Ufa year to get peak value. also he's hurt an habs always have injuries. the youth will get opportunities

  7. Can't believe your dumping on Barron. He's only 21, and he's a right handed shot. I'm glad your not running this team. Good grief!

  8. Did everyone lose focus of the goal?
There is no dilemma especially considering players who won't be a factor on any cup contending team.
We want Newhook/Dach in our top 6….seriously?
We are already at cap or still over cap so we SHOULD be looking at ELC's and NOT trading for players that cost us more in contracts.
A realistic goal was a 3 or 4 year rebuild and by that time several ELC's will require attention …new contracts that will cost the team more money.
If Dach and Newhook are on our top 6 we will NOT be a serious contender and if they last that long then their agents are going to ask for money so it's a lose lose.
We need to stay FOCUSED we need to have some cap space to resign our quality ELC's and not throw it all away because wanted to rush it going after trades and FA's.

  9. :Justin Barron" is NOT a good defenseman and to be able to put up points he would need to be on the top 2 lines and if he was we would be in trouble.
Rating Barron I wouldn't even rate him top 4 on our farm team so that is how far from the tree he is.We have Mailloux,Hutson,Trudeau and that European dude so there is no way Barron should be in ANY future plans.
I didn't even include Struble and imo Struble looks pretty good early on I see him passing Barron and THEN in a year or two we have Reinbacher we are overloaded with defense.
Our problem is quality forwards not these Dach's and Newhooks they are not quality forwards and we need St.Louis to teach these guys a proper defensive zone system to help th edefense and the goalies reach their potential.

  10. If we stick to the goal "building a legit cup contender" then IDC one iota about Dvorak or Barron or even Owen beck or Dach Newhook because NONE of those guys will be a serious factor in winning a cup.IDK about others but my goal is not to just make the playoffs I want to build a winner and keep the salary cap under control because that has been a huge fail for this team for a very long time.

  11. The Habs centres will be Suzuki, Monaghan, Dvorak or Newhook and Evans. This is not a dilemma. It is a blessing. Dach will play RW on the 1st line and Slaf will play on the 2nd line. Dvorak and Newhook are versatile.

  12. trade for clayton keller is the play hes not happy with arizona its prime timing

  13. Cup team??Not when your top line is 5-11 or less.Dream on😮

  14. Sean Monahan is probably out at the deadline. Dach and Newhook could very well be wingers.

Kirby Dach Nick Suzuki Cole Caufield
Alex Newhook Sean Monahan Josh Anderson (RW/LW)
Juraj Slafkovský Christian Dvorak Brendan Gallagher (RW)
Mike Hoffman Jake Evans Michael Pezzetta

    Rafaël Harvey-Pinard
    Joel Armia

  15. Newhook Suzuki caufield
    Rhp dach anderson
    Slaf monahan gally
    Ylonen evans armia/farrel

Bench hoffman and trade dvorak when healthy and if possible trade armia or bench and play farrel if hes ready

  16. I’d put both Dach and Mewhook on the wings until we deal Monahan and DVO ! And I’d keep Barron over Harris. He’s smart but small! Barron is on the right side where we lack and has more size and a higher ceiling offensively!

  17. We can't have too much depth centre. That's not a thing. We could have 12 and it still wouldn't be a problem.

  18. Almost impossible to move Dvorak. Cap hit of $4.45M. But is owed $5.725M over the next 2 years. Hoffman is the odd man out at 50% retention. OK value at $2.25M.
