[Basu] The Laval Rocket has never been more relevant to the Canadiens’ future than it is right now

Good article from Basu about the youth movement in Laval. He lists the below players as being potential fixtures of the AHL affiliate (not counting Norlinder, Beaudin, Ylonen, or even Reinbacher if he stays in NA).

Assuming we clear some space (at some point Hoffman/Armia/Dvo have to go…), who do you see graduating to the big club first? Heineman is my pick, feel like he’s going to be a third liner for years to come.

The Laval kiddie corps:

— Filip Mešár

— Riley Kidney

— Logan Mailloux

— Joshua Roy

— William Trudeau

— Jan Myšák

— Jared Davidson

— Emil Heineman

— Xavier Simoneau

— Jakub Dobeš

— Jayden Struble

— Sean Farrell

I think Heineman and Farrell are most likely to be early call ups. A lot of others in that list are first year AHL’ers. Give them lots of ice time and let them cook.

Never really been interested by watching AHL games but this year will truly be different.

There’s also a possibility Slafkovsky comes back to play with Mesar. Laval is going to be exciting

What’s that site again where you can read Athletic articles without a sub?

I have a feeling Riley Kidney is going to light it up, will he get the first call? Maybe not, but I have a feeling he will get a shot this year.

  7. Heineman had a great end of regular season but was invisible in the AHL playoffs. He’s the most pro-ready so likely at the top of the call-up list.

I don’t think all the kids will play in Laval at the start of the season, or always be in the lineup at the same time. The transition from CHL to AHL is not always seamless and a period of adaptation in the ECHL is always on the menu. Davidson’s contract is with Laval, so might be the lowest on the totem pole and the most likely to go to Trois-Rivières. I’m also cautious about Kidney because the change of pace will challenge him the most out of the rest of the guys on that list.

Gotta be Heiny I would imagine. Seems the most ready to me and I think he might surprise a few people here with his ability

Is Laval on a budget? That’s the first time I read about it

The Rocket should be a fun team for sure.

I think Mailloux will be up at the beginning of the season. According to a number of journalists who saw the scrimmages a few weeks back he looked more like a NHLer than a prospect.

Will be very very interesting to see how th big team and this team turn out this year.

Roy, Kidney, and Farrell are all intriguing guys. If they look good in the AHL, it’s a bunch of found money considering two of those were late round picks and Kidney was only a second rounder. Would really help with the rebuild since I generally dislike the Habs forward prospects.

I watch AHL often, I think the Rocket is going to be bad for at least the first part of the year… This is a league of older, seasoned pros and having that big of an influx of rookies is gonna be hard for Laval. I don’t anticipate them having a great season result wise.
