How does the Debrincat sign/trade impact the Leafs/Nylander?

The #ottawasenators trade Alex Debrincat to the #detroitredwings who immediately sign him to a 4 year deal. But how does this impact William Nylander and the #torontomapleleafs

  1. Hand full of things I think are incorrect.
1: The Nylander potential trade value would be higher than this. This situation was unique and wouldn’t apply to Willy.
2: Detroit had a hometown discount NO DOUBT. Cats child now gets to be close to his grandparents which was a big factor.
3: No way Willy signs less than 9M. Nobody on Toronto took a discount and he just had an amazing year. I honestly don’t see how he would accept under 9.5

  2. Would you trade Nylander for Hellebucyk even up providing the goalie is willing to sign for less than 9 M. I would. A goalie of that calibre really makes the Leafs capable of winning the Cup. Yeah I know Hellebucyk is 30 yrs. old.

  3. I saw far more times in the playoffs he was missing in action. Fly by Willie…. He did trip and bump into somebody in one game, I think a total accident. If he played as hard as Nick Robertson, he would win a Hart.. LOL, but he never will.

  4. Nylander's camp doesn't care about comparables and the rest of the league. It starts with what Matthews signs for. If AM34 takes a cut, it sets the tone for the rest of the team. If not.. they may have to "trade down" for a 7-8M RW. Personally I'd like to get Laine from CBJ.

  5. id rather have debouis, meier, and debrincat over nylander… and somehow willie is asking for the most… sucks to lose willie but this team needs to spread out its cap. i would definately be giving anaheim a call and offering samsonov + willie for gibson and a B+ prospect or a pick… we gonna take a hit in the offense department…. but it fits with our cap and our need for a solid tender.. murray will still need to be bought out or traded tho.. and brodie can stay and the team will have a little over 1Million in cap to play with

  6. Nylander only went "give me the puck I'm going to go" while he was cherry picking and got a stretch pass break. People need to go back and watch where Nylander was when he was on the ice in the playoffs.

  7. I don't want you to be wrong, but I think you're way off base. You can't compare De Brincat and Nylander. Nylander is a better player in many regards. But the problem is that WiIlie sees himself deserving of Marner money. He's not Marner, nor is he Pasternak or Kucherov. Dubois is an interesting comparison but I still think Nylander is better and would realistically peg him at $9.0M. If it gets past $9.5, i'd cash out on him. The problem is its hard to win a trade for him. You'd have to try to flip him for a Top2-D with grit and length and they're not falling out of the trees. His last contract should tell you that Nylander and his agent, who is also Gaudreau's, has no problem waiting you out or exercising his trade rights. It's a sticky situation for sure, but you're underestimating 88's value. Toronto really needs that cap to go up.

  8. Willy take your 8.5 to 9 mil. That's all that there is. I get by on 55 thousand a year. Yes 55.thats it.

  9. Just trade him for better D. His agent is too greedy for anything less than 9.5m

  10. When Bill Nylander is 'on it' he is an elite RW. The issue is, he is not always 'on it' & his commitment to playing D compared to Matthews & Marner, isn't even close. Coming out of his ELC in 17/18, Pastrnak was his closest comp & he had signed the year before at 6.66M x 6. Bill wanted 8M & Dubas offered 6M. Bill's agent Lewis Gross assured Bill the Leafs would cave if he held out, which was his only leverage as an RFA. Dubas did not budge & as Dubas tells it, later confirmed by Nylander, Bill called Dubas directly (not Gross) & said "what can we do to work this out?". Bill came off his demand of 8M & Dubas came up tp 6.96M x 6 & they met basically halfway. Shitty advice from Gross as the number they agreed to on Dec 1st had already been discussed in Sept. The holdout was a complete waste of time & accomplished nothing. Nylander then had a sub-par season, almost certainly as a result of the 2 & 1/2 month layoff.

Sadly, Nylander is the only one of the 'core 4' that is tradeable & as his number this time around is said to be 10.6M (Pastrnak just extended for 11.25M). Once again, given Bill's penchant to being stubborn, it's time to move on. He is not the player that Pastrnak is & his resistance to playing meaningful D, even in the post-season, pisses me off. If Nylander will come down to a max of 9.5M x 5 then I would re-sign him warts & all. As it is unlikely he will agree to that number, then wait until the trade deadline & hope some team thinks his offence will be the difference maker in a playoff run & will offer better value than what is available right now. Letting him walk to UFA for nothing seems like the worst case scenario to me.

  11. So you say Debrincat is better….so this is the return you get or a little less…are you happy
