THANKS DK! I agree with you about sticking with Jarry – it seems goaltenders take years to reach their peak mentally.
Greetings from Newfoundland! Question: After a very well deserved break, and after decades of being "the face of the Pens," what role (if any) do you see going forward for Mario with the Fenway Group/Dubus Penguins?
Should the Pens become more aggressive in the pursuit of Karlsson?? Hearing more rumors other teams might throw there name in hat in the pursuit Hearing the Leafs might make a trade offer of Nylander for Karlsson if the Sharks land Dumba in free agency and I heard Philly might make SJ an offer!!!
Rust just needs a lil wd40, bro.
Rust is one of their better players, but he's on that fine line of performance and role versus higher salary that makes him a player involved in trade rumors and discussions every season. Guys like him and Pettersson are players you don't really want to see go, but if they want to get something great or even just good in return, has to considered. People always think other teams will just take a bunch of our unwanted clutter and give back gold in return. That really never happens.
Even trades like the Francis/Samuelsson trade wasn't considered a Pens win until they won the cup that season. Lots of folks – especially in Hartford – originally thought the Whalers got the better of the deal as John Cullen at the time was 5th in the league in scoring and they really needed a young puck-moving defenseman that they got in Zarley Zalapski. The trade that brought in Coffey sent pretty good players the other way for him too in Craig Simpson, veterans Dave Hannan, Moe Mantha, and rookie Chris Joseph.
Simpson was a really good player scoring 43 goals in 59 games that season for the Oilers after the trade, and went on to never score less than 20 goals a season in his time with Edmonton and helped them to 2 more Stanley Cups. Until the Penguins won their first cup three seasons later after that trade, I'm pretty sure the Oilers and their fans felt they fleeced the Pens as much as Pens fans felt the same about the Whalers trade in '91.
What I'm getting at here is, if people are still thinking a Karlsson trade could still happen, then they need to be prepared to be upset with what the Pens send the other way. It's not going to just be players like Petry, Granlund, a prospect and and some picks. Especially if they think SJ is going to retain a lot of EK's salary as well.
What's with the secrecy about this mysterious Jarry injury? I'm still not able to put the pieces together and figure out what it is. He's described it as "An injury that he's over and will thankfully never experience again." What does that even mean? What types of injuries only occur once in an athlete's career?
