  1. players are looking out for themselves and i don't blame them. nhl ownership is the worst in pro sports. greedy and no regard for the players or the fan base. they use the lockout as a bargaining chip.

  2. As far as I'm concerned the problem is that Austin Mathews is making 13 million dollars you will never win in Canada's reality like that , Montreal will win Canada's next Stanley Cup because of the example both Nick and Cole made taking way less than they worth THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY MY HEROES GO HABS GO 💕

  3. If that is Marner's attitude, and I didn't watch the video so I'm just taking the title at face value, I would trade his A immediately.
That attitude is why the TML aren't going to go far.

  4. If Mathews doesn't get over a hundred points next year The Toronto Maple sheep's will never get rid of that contract

  5. Dubas let the Core 4 believe they can ask for more. Here's what you do.

Offer Nylander the Meier deal. If he doesn't take it, send him packing for a top 4 D and fill out the holes in the bottom six.

  6. The NHL is a business. If you don't like that fact, too f***ing bad. These players have limited careers. It's in their best interest to make as much money as they can, because for most of them, it's got to last the rest of their lives. Teams cut players all the time because the NHL is a business. Teams trade players all the time because the NHL is a business. So what if a player wants to get paid? If the team doesn't like it, make a business decision.

  7. Toronto Maple sheep's have blown it,they should have traded all that core away for early picks in the last draft WHO'S IN CHARGE OVER THERE AUSTIN MATTHEWS

  8. Dubas is responsible for the atrocious salary structure of the Leafs. With an overrated captain making $11M, it's understandable younger and better players dont want to take pay cuts during their prime. Dubas left without any young stars locked long term with a good contract and blundered a 1st-round pick + all three 2nd-round picks for the next 3 years. And Leafs' fans are still praising Dubas hahaha.

  9. I well never understand this new generation of player, i get make your money, but players like marner well make just as much in their contract as they do in commercials etc…these guys are hockey players and business men now, so if they understand the business, they must know they are going to handcuff their prospective teams to the point they well never be able to win a cup because the team cant afford players to win, then after the contract ages and they realize not winning sucks they wanna bail cause the team they helped handcuff cant win, but wait theres more, now not only the team well never win a cup, they cant be traded because their contract sucks( see lou and erik karlsson)

  10. Marner's comments should surprise no one. Just as Nylander wanting $10+ and/or Matthews new contract likely being $13-14m despite Auston's lackluster season and career lackluster playoff numbers. Toronto's star players are very talented…and very greedy…and don't forget JT and his $11m boat anchor of a contract. This team never wins much of anything with these guys because they're all only out for themselves. Of the lot of them, I personally think Marner is the best overall hockey player, but he's worth roughly what he makes RIGHT NOW, not what he thinks he's going to get on his next deal…which is likely around $13m…particularly if Matthews gets $14m. This Leafs will be hot garbage if they pay four guys…forty-eight million dollars a season AAV. Right at this time that'd be 57.5% of the cap…and even with the cap going up it will prohibit the Leafs from surrounding those guys with enough depth to win anything.

…and yes I realize Tavares' contract will go away about the time Marner is being overpaid on his next deal…but it changes nothing. The inmates are running this asylum…into the ground.

  11. The biggest person to blame for the all the Leafs problems is the Shanaplan, fire Shanahan . He is the one who keeps the core together , he is the one re-signing Keefe. Wake up its way past due for a president with experience. Any sane person would realise what you tried for the last 5 years did NOT work yet hey lets try it again. It literally is a dictionary description of Insanity! If they are money hungry players, a president with experience would want them traded. Not run to them at the end of another exit to the playoffs and say don't worry boys your jobs are safe. What a pathetic joke of a president.

  12. This tells me that either that the Leafs core doesnt truly believe they can win or they don't care as much about winning. A shame because those four are so talented. Actually I'm thinking Tavares is old school and probably doesn't share sentiments of other three.

  13. Trade marner,, he don't care about the Stanley cup, its all about himself,,never going win with the. core four,,,,

  14. The way he performed in the playoffs I'm not suprised Marner would want a few more millions instead of a cup

  15. Mathews has to 1: get more points then petterson 2: actually show up in the playoffs if he wants more money. Cup winning teams have money distributed somewhat evenly throughout the roster.

  16. Dubas tried to be buddies with the agents and they took advantage of him. A bridge deal eouldve put Matthews at 8 +/- and Marner 7+/-. The team would've had an extra 7 + million for 2 -3 years and both of them would be signed for what they make now for the next 5 years. That sounds pretty good right now.

  17. As a Detroit Fan, I will not comment directly on Mathews, Marner, et al. All I will say is Marner wants $12+ million, Nylander wants 10+, and Mathews wants 14+ while in Detroit Debrincat WANTED $8.75 million x 8 years, but SETTLED for $7.875 for 4 years. Therefore I pose a question to Leafs Fans – who do you think is going to have team like Vegas 4 lines deep with good/decent players? A follow-up if I may – if in two years these two teams meet in playoffs who do you think is more likely to want to win?

  18. His playoff performance year in and year out backs this up. He doesn’t have the chops for playoff hockey and only way he wins a cup is via being a passenger. Marner the type of player you want as a 3rd line winger in the playoffs not a 10+ mil key piece you are relying on for 25-30 points.

  19. What did this franchise think would happen? These guys grew up on a franchise that put money before winning their entire lives and their dads. He and Tavares are as True a Maple Leaf as any players ever.

  20. How Dubas can even stay employed in the NHL after destroying the Leaf's franchise is absurd! I heard that Dubas will be releasing his book soon. It's called Destroying an NHL Franchise for Dummies endorsed by Mike Milbury!

  21. Yep. Marner is greedy. The player who allegedly turned down a $12-13M offer sheet to stay a Leaf.

The Marner hate just shows how much the average Leaf fans knows nothing about hockey. He drives whatever line he is on and elevates players on it. I doubt Bunting is going to score 20 goals in his career again. He can thank Marner for his contract.

He is the only one of the core four worth his value at the moment.

Marner’s friendship comment is just supporting Nylander. If Nylander wants to get paid, then he can get paid elsewhere and he’ll still be his friend and won’t hold it against him. That’s what I read from the comment.
