I’ve gotta burn off some Reddit gold before Reddit ends their current gold and award system. Share your best canes content (stories, pictures, memes, fanfics, etc etc etc) and I’ll try to award as many as I can! LCG!

I was gonna do the same thing, so I’ll help hand out some awards as well. So bring them in people.

I met Erik Cole at the Stadium Series and my first words were, “Brooks Orpik is a swear word in my house”. He laughed and went out for beers later. Ok, no beers but fun was had either way.

When Shane Willis was talking to Hannah about players blowing their loads (I think he meant blowing the zone, but I’ve always heard it as flying the zone I think). Was hilarious the way he immediately realized his mistake (Hannah clearly did as well) and just kept going flawlessly. I’ll try to find a video of it.

ETA: Does anyone happen to remember which game this occurred during? I’ve tried every search phrasing I can think of without any luck.

I can’t find it, but the girl who did this 🤏 to that one player is one of my favorite moments in recent history

Recent memory for me, I was at game 5 against the Devils with my sister and when Fast scored in OT I hugged both her and the random guy sitting next to me who I’d been talking to all game. We bonded over our love for the canes but also our mutual hatred of the 3 very loud Devils fans sitting directly behind us. Never did get that guy’s name, but wherever he is I hope he’s doing well. Admittedly not really a significant moment in the grand scheme of things, but it’s one I’ll never forget.

Shane saying “he got that dawg in him!” last season was one of my favorite moments of the year. Let’s go Canes!

Aside from watching them win the cup in 2006, my favorite memory was hanging out in Atlantic beach for July 4th a couple weeks after they won the cup in June.

We were out on the boat at Cape Lookout and saw off in the distance a boat with something that looked like the Cup. We thought it was just a knockoff or homemade one you see at the PNC in the back of some caniac’s truck before big games. We thought it was cool to see fans down at the coast but didn’t think too much about it.

Later that night we were drinking at BTs, which is a dumpy dive bar down there with pitchers of Natural Light for less than $3.00 (at the time). We were hanging out and the door opens and in comes the Stanley Cup. I’m thinking “There is no way that is really the Stanley Cup”, but my buddy recognized the guy who brought it in (along with the security team) as the equipment manager at the time. It was his weekend with there cup and he took it to the Cape and BTs. We hung out all night with the cup, took tons of pictures, chatted with the guys who brought it in, and tried to drink beer out of it but they would not let us.

It was such a fun, random night.

I remember watching an OHL game and svech got ejected and I thought that was funny

Saw Jordos OT winner live in the Preds series in 2021. Great seats and great angle to watch and his celly was pretty legendary.

Bouncing Eric Hula from the playoffs… and living rent free in his head as apparent from yesterday…

I can’t share the picture on this thread, but one of the coolest moments I’ve had as a canes fan was when I was in LA visiting family in 2022. I was hoping I could find a way to watch the game, so we went to a bar in downtown right by staples center, this bar had a 200 inch screen and it was playing game 7 Canes Vs Rangers. Didn’t even have to ask them to put it on. It felt surreal watching the Canes on national TV on the other side of the country. We had the whole bar rooting for the Canes, we lost of course and were ultimately eliminated but it was a really cool moment for me. The small market team i rooted for since I was a kid had the attention of the entire country.

Back when Tim Gleason was just traded here from LAK, and wearing #42. It was the first game I took my wife to see in the RBC Centre. It was her first hockey game ever. Had seats 2 rows from the glass and right beside the opposing teams penalty box.

5 minutes into the game Tim Gleason drops the mitts and proceeds introduce my wife to the wonderful game of hockey.

She’s standing and yelling that’s it, get him! Get him![Bradley vs Gleason](https://youtu.be/mZ2IYODYgAQ)

    It was a great day!

So I played in the Alumni Game this year at the Carter-Finley and it was a kick ass experience. Besides the legendary chirping throughout there is one bit that sticks out for me from the weekend. Jesse Boulerice got absolutely smashed the night before at the reception they had that was open bar and a pretty good time. The next day was the game, he came in still drunk would fail probably every sobriety test, then goes to his bag, pulls out some tabs and tells everyone “We’re winning this fucking game, you will take this and we will win” no one knowing immediately what they were, salt tabs, (Justin Williams, Cam Ward and others amongst the thoroughly confused), but everyone was really confused. He chugs his water with it in it, immediately runs to the bathroom, pukes his guts out for a solid 4 minutes. Runs back out like he’s stone cold sober. Proceeds to lead the game in scoring and our team won.

100/10 would do the game again just for the stuff you don’t see on the ice.

I have lived and died with the Montreal Canadiens for over 50 years. I know I’m supposed to hate Toronto and Boston the most but I don’t. I hate Carolina the most. I hate everything about them. I hate that they replaced the Hartford Whalers. I hate that they’re so good at drafting. I hate Justin Williams’ stupid unpenalized high stick that carved up Saku Koivu’s eyeball. I hate their stupid post-game celebrations. I hate that their coach has a stupid apostrophe in his name. I hate the stupid extra $20 on Kotkaniemi’s contract. I hate Svechnikov’s stupid Michigans. I hate that they have a whole stupid forward line of guys with numbers in the 80’s. I hate Rod Brind’amour’s stupid nickname. I hate Brent Burns’ stupid KitKat commercials. I hate that the stupid Staals always score against Montreal. I hate the stupid way that Raleigh is spelled. I hate Kotkamiemi’s stupid mole. I hate everything about the stupid Carolina Hurricanes.

In 2008 I was playing for the East Coast Eagles (currently the Carolina Eagles) Junior C team during my senior year of high school. We were heading to Nationals in a week or two and had a team meeting before our practice. We expected the higher ups in the organization to give us some motivational, “Represent us well, work hard, NATIONALS!!” talk.

Well in walks Rod the fucking Bod, less than two years after lifting the Cup, giving us the most motivational, run-through-a-wall speech to get us hyped for Nationals. It was seriously just like the pre and post game speeches you see him give now. He makes eye contact with EVERYONE, is super passionate, pacing while he speaks.

You know what I remember from it? My jaw hitting the floor when I saw him, and the profound feeling of, “I am not worthy.” I wish I could remember anything of what he said but I have no fucking clue because I was too star struck.

What a guy. RBA is truly one of a kind. Genuinely cares about people. Pretty damn near impossible to hear him speak and not want to do and be better.

Reeses Penis Butter Cups is an all time classic

But meeting u/denvercaniac for Cam Wards Hall of Fame game and the Stadium Series experience will have a special memory for me. That week was one of the best of my life.

I’ll share my three favorite Canes stories:

    1. Attending game 4 of the first round in 2009. The buzzer beater. The place explodes and the game ends in regulation. I was sitting on the glass near the benches and barely saw the puck but the aftermath made it special. It was my first playoff game.

    2. Just last year at home against the Sharks. The people next to me left when we were down 2 after the empty netter. I stayed and watched one of the most amazing comebacks I’ve ever seen. Still get warm feelings when I think about Necas scoring the OT winner. Always felt bad for Reimer though.

    3. Sitting in the Delta Sky Lounge at RDU when in walks the man with the plan himself, GMDW. Had a fantastic conversation with him about Patches and Nino. He seemed surprised that he was recognized and I got a photo with him.

I was at the game in Winnipeg when svech did the lacrosse goal and also last year when they came back to force overtime after being down 0-3 halfway through the third period.

Both were amazing moments as a Canes fan but also a lot of angry Jets fans around me.

Context: I am from Winnipeg and live here but cheer for the Canes

  20. EstablishmentNo5994

I was once attending a canes game in Toronto during the dark years. Before the game started my friend and I ran into an older lady wearing a canes Derek Joslin jersey. Having had a few too many drinks and still being young and stupid, I decided to say to her “wow, you must be the only person other than Joslin himself who owns one of his jerseys.” Turned out it was his mom. Not my finest moment.

  21. denvercaniac

    Tripp Braveheart.

Drafting Svech, a movement that likely saved the franchise.
    Trading for Jordan.

  22. xtzferocity

I worked with a few Canes players but most notably Seth Jarvis and nothing was better than working with Seth to prank his brother on a weekly basis (who also worked there.)

Good times and a great kid.

  23. Hoodedelm

Living in New England for a while growing up, I grew a strong hatred for Boston. Nothing is better to me than the moment Wardo skated up to Chara and just absolutely mean mugged a man a whole head taller than him.

  24. garbagebailkid

The only playoff game I’ve been able to go to was on May 6, 2006. Game 1 of the series vs the Devils.

    Martin Brodeur’s birthday.

    Hurricanes won, 6-0
