Ducks Have Plenty of Young Talent and Cap Space for More Moves

They do need to sign Terry and Zegras, but there’s money there to be spent.

  1. Great synopsis, as usual. I love your no non-sense approach to these. I'm a Ducks season ticket holder, so I'm a little biased, but there are soooo many kids I'm really looking forward to watching in the coming years. A few other D-men that you didn't mention were Noah Warren and Tristan Luneau. Warren did not look uncomfortable last pre-season before he got hurt and Luneau just had and incredible year in juniors. I agree with you about the surprising attendance numbers. My family goes to every game and while there were empty seats in the lower (corporate owned) bowl section, the upper section where we seat was full almost every night. This really surprised us because the team was so terrible, especially defensively, and Disneyland is just down the street. Even when the Ducks still had Getzlaf and Perry, if they started to lose, a lot of people just headed to Disneyland instead. Maybe is't the Zegras effect, who knows? Another surprising event was when we went to development camp and showed up 5 minutes late and all that was left was standing room only. I was standing next to John Ahlers and asked jokingly that did all these people know this was the worst team in the NHL last season? Thanks again for the report!

  2. If Dallas Eakins gets another job, I hope he gets at least a decent roster. I feel like dude has never had an opportunity to succeed, having only ever coached rosters with a max capacity of producing a dog’s breakfast game in and game out. Poor guy.

  3. Around Rumormille, which is probably just it. If Mark Yanetti was overruled by Blake picking Zegras over Turcotte, then that would be something to think of what ifs. But then again, Hockey Gods better give Turcotte some breaks. The kid suffered a concussion after concussion recently.

  4. This reminds me of my favorite baseball team, the Orioles. Were one of the better teams back in the mid 2010's, then had either aging players or players asking for too much and they left. Had to struggle for many years. Got some solid draft picks, have one of the best farm systems and this year they're competing for the best record in baseball. Ducks can be that team. Solid and I do mean solid prospects. The Gulls have always been good. Ducks can easily be back to that 2010's Era when they were making the playoffs every year

  5. I could honestly see the Ducks going with this for the forward lineups and having it at least look respectable on paper:
1st Line: Zegras (LW) Henrique (C) Killorn (RW)
    2nd Line: Strome McTavish Terry
    3rd Line: Vatrano Lundestrom Silfverberg
    4th Line: Jones Carrick McGinn

I honestly have given up on Tracey and Perreault ever being anything at the NHL level at this point but as a Ducks fan I am just glad that Eakins is gone, man is a really good coach for a team that is trying to tank because it just felt like more times then not he coached to not lose instead of coaching to win which doesnt usually bode well

  6. Zegras 6.5 3 years
    Terry 6.5 6 years
    Drysdale 5 5 years
    That's 18….

Last year i had them taking a wild card because I reallt like their makeup but yea defense is a huge problem and I can't blame Gibson. I think they need to move on from Gibson and I see him a fit in Edm. Edm clearly can't find that goalie so might as well just bank on him….they can afford giving up high Draft picks because they just need middle 6 guys and depth….their defense looks fine even good (top 15, in league) and their defense would even be better if they find a goalie to make that 4-5 spectacular saves…. he makes at least 10 a game on a worse team….

  7. The D really missed Hampus Lindholm last season. Fowler couldn't do everything

  8. I agree they should really consider moving Zegras to lw. A good couch for this team could really go a long way.

  9. I think they'll improve a good bit, probably a few games under .500 The goals for is going to go up quite a bit I think. The goals against, not as much.

  10. I can see devils try trade on gibson maybe some kind of trade with vanecek <-> gibson and some other pieces.

  11. I’ve always liked Gibson. Would be interesting to see him play on a team with a solid defense in front of him.

  12. If Gibson stays I do expect them to get better. But if he is traded (which is very likely) I expect another rough season.

  13. If I had a nickel for every time Gibson was supposed to be traded I still wouldn't be able to buy much with all those nickels because of inflation.

  14. A John Gibson trade to the Sabres has intrigue. With the arrival of Devon Levi in Buffalo, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen becomes a prime trade candidate. He's still young and despite some not-so-pretty numbers last season, he still has upside. Him being included in a potential deal would benefit both sides: Ducks get a young goaltender who could provide solid service for them while Buffalo sorts their goaltending situation out a bit. Gibson and Levi could be fun, with Eric Comrie also in the organization as the No. 3 option.
