  1. Nah, nah, nah! He is an ass! What are teams like Toronto supposed to do? Limit media access to players?
He attacked something that can't be changed… He's a grown ass man that let the media hurt his feelings… Let's not sugar coat it.

  2. It’s a known fact that gravity gets weaker as you go further from the center of the universe. Good on O’Reilly for being classy and honest. Agree that Leafs fans need to lighten up a bit. Good take!

  3. Of course there’s too much pressure in Toronto. Jesus was nailed to the cross in Dundas square

  4. I get it, what frustrates me is not him. It's the Leafs' core that has continued to choke and demand to be paid like they won the cup, when they haven't even been close.

  5. Yep, being a Pred is better. Preds been horrendous in the past few years. ROR as the # 1 centre? Gee, he came in TDL and playoff time….yes there is pressure. Sorry he doesn't want it.

  6. Lots of hockey players are "soft" when it comes to the pressure part. In other sports the players want to be in the spotlight, they want that pressure and attention. Most hockey players seem to be the opposite. They want to be left alone and live a normal life. The upside is that guys like Matthews and Nylander seem to like the spotlight. They like their GQ photo shoots, they like their national ad campaigns. As a hockey player you'll never get more endorsements/attention than you will in Toronto.

  7. God bless Ryan O'Reilly! You brought the cup to St. Louis and we will always love you! Good luck in Nashville, except when you are playing the Blues!!! LOL!!!

  8. It's a business at the end of the day. You can find work somewhere else because the place you're currently at, while maybe not bad, might just not be the right fit for you. There doesn't have to be animosity or burning bridges involved and O'Reilly didn't do so in leaving. If fans want to burn those bridges themselves and decide they hate him it's on them. I have players I enjoy watching on other teams, even players that were formerly on my team.

  9. Well….. then you REALLY have to give credit to the core Four… because these guys have given it for 7 years , firstly 3 of them were VERY young to endure that kind of “Pressure” and they’re willing to give it more. If a guy like O’Reilly walks it has to mean something.

  10. ROFLMFAO How do leafblowers not realize most real hockey players actually like winning and having a good chance in the playoffs and playing on good teams and over 90% of good hockey players would not play in laughland. 😂😂

  11. Playing for Toronto isn’t for everyone. These players are all soft. They should actually work very hard and win and they would be worshipped

  12. The spotlight is just what comes with one of the biggest hockey hotspots in the league. It’s a Canadian market, obviously you’re going to have way more spotlight. I just hope the players know that all that hate from fans generally comes from a place of love and passion because we get attached to guys and when they leave it breaks hearts. It’s one of the most passionate fan bases in all of the NHL and we’ve stuck it out through thick and thin, I don’t want this negative connotation with it because overall it’s not, we love these guys. But I understand that with the extreme of one thing you get the extreme of the other — we can deliver so much love for players when they do good in our eyes but also the opposite when they do bad. 😶😬 overall I would’ve change Toronto, I love our passion, and it just makes us who we are.

  13. This is one Leafs fan that wishes them both the best, can't fault someone for doing what they think is right for them and there families.. that being said, keep your heads up against the Leafs this year!

  14. The biggest issue in Toronto isn’t the bright lights. It’s isn’t the weather, it isn’t the taxes, it isn’t the rabid fans. The biggest issue in Toronto is the front office is terrible.

  15. Toronto fans demand effort… all you can deliver all the time… and that's why they still adore guys like Gilmour, Sundin, Domi and Clark even though they never won a Cup…. these are guys who worked hard every night without fail and who sweat and bleed blue for the team. If O'Reilly would rather be in a tiny market with basically zero hockey culture, it's probably better to let him go and forget him. Don't waste time getting angry at some guy who can't take pressure, because the NHL playoffs are all about pressure. O'Reilly clearly isn't up for it.

    Time to move on.

  16. How come so few players make the 1 year to one of the last cup winners for 1 million?

  17. All else being equal I'd rather be an anonymous rich guy than being hassled everywhere I go.

  18. As an Avs fan, ROR's action does not surprise me. When dealing with this player, the issue to remember is that it is always about him. Perfect example of a self centered player.

  19. As a Flames fan? I would turn on any player that left my team; even when it doesnt feel good to do so, because I know that I'm a living example of a Seinfeld bit. I cheer for clothes, there, I said it. 😅

  20. Not sure how that automatically translates to, 'Theres too much pressure in Toronto '. For everything he said, its just as likely he looked around and realized- this core group just doesn't have it. They want their money and theyre okay with losing.

  21. im not buying it , ROR won a cup so he knows what pressure is , its kind of the opposite of what he was saying on cleanout day, i think its the leafs locker room that he had issues with and the culture, marner kind of confirmed that with the money before cup remark

  22. I was excited to see ROR in the blue and white but a rental is a rental. Happy he helped the leafs get over that 1st round hurtle. Maybe he was expected to be bigger than he is in Toronto, not a lot of players want that

  23. thank god i like both those players. dont like the preds at all but yk…

  24. As a Leafs fan, I was heartbroken to see Schenn and O’Reilly go but I support their decision. Happy they didn’t go to a rival either

  25. All Canadian fans have pressure on players, O'Reilly just doesn't like it and that's why he never stayed long and before that had never played for a Canadian team

  26. there are bad fans in every market. most leafs fans arent throwing shade at RoR. I wish he would have stayed but i respect his decision.

  27. These guys crumble under the pressure playing for teams that would be mid to bottom tier NBA/NFL/MLB teams in terms of popularity

  28. makes u respect our core guys more. they deal with alll the hate yet they stick around

  29. I disagree that a huge portion of fans turned on him. Just wait until he plays in Toronto for the first time as a Pred next season. He'll get a HUGE standing "O". So will Schenn. It's just a different vibe here. A lot of pressure and they're recognized everywhere. They don't get mobbed, they just get noticed. They're our heroes.

  30. On the other side of the argument, if you are winning in Toronto, there is no better place to play. Also, ROR is giving up a lot in endorsement money. He won't get the opportunities in Nashville that he would get in Toronto.
Same with the others, Nylander may have to factor that into his decision. Same with Matthews. I have heard a lot of people say they think he will want to go back to Arizona. Why? What kind of endorsements do you think he will get in a city that cannot fill a 5000 seat arena as compared to Toronto, where he is all over the media?

  31. Still my favorite leaf. I wish him all the best. I'm just disapointed I'm not going to see what he cod hav did with a full season then play offs.
