I mean, that’s fair to say. Wants to win but wants to see if this team will be good

I think this is also the same for Lindholm. If the tram thrives under Huska and Savard. He might likely stay. But if Calgary doesnโt do well. Calgary would be โfireโ sale the remaining rentals

I think the correct translation is “I’m not ready to commit; please trade me.”

Sounds like a Tkachuk or Gaudreau situation in the making. It’s a big risk, and there’s no guarantee he signs even if the Flames do well. I, for one, am very wary.

Backlund choosing not to extend is entirely fair with me. He’s given nearly his whole career to this team, and if he wants to spend the final years of his career chasing a cup, we should honor that request like we did for Iggy.

This is fine, you can’t trade everyone. On the other hand if Lindholm says this he must be traded before the season starts.

basically what ive read from the insiders is that there was talk prior to the draft, but teams got guys for free like Ryan Johansen & RoR & Duchene, which killed discussion, and it’s been completely dead since – there’s no interest in Backlund at all.๐คทโโ๏ธ

Ready to get downvotes. This is not a good idea. The team needs to pick a fucking direction. Are we contending? Retooling? If we bring back lindholm I assume itโs bc heโs signed and weโre planning on contending. If he comes into to the season without an extension in place itโll be Johnny 2.0
I expect Hanifin to get traded this off-season. I hope we donโt bring him into next season. Itโll bring negative media attention plus youโll risk losing him for nothing
Backlund is clearly looking to win and letโs be real Calgary isnโt as close to contending as ownership thinks. Bringing a guy back just because heโs โcaptain materialโ is stupid. Heโs saying what he wants people to hear. Itโs clear the dude isnโt signing in Calgary again. Trade him now and start fresh. We donโt need this type of uncertainty anymore.
