What are the Philadelphia Flyers expectations and ours for Sean Couturier & Cam Atkinson?

On today’s show, Russ and Rachel discuss the current status of both Sean Couturier and Cam Atkinson. What do we know about their injury recoveries? If healthy, where would we slot them in the lineup? Then how does that affect the rest of the forwards in the lineup? What do the initial lines this season look like? Who might be the first guys up if either of those two can’t play? We also answer your mailbag questions on the Matvei Michkov pick, Tyson Foerster, Cal Petersen, and more!

  1. Atkinson coming back and playing well is fairly important to flyers because it may allow them to trade him without needing to include a draft pick or taking back some of that salary. He is Torts guy but Flyers just have too much young talent at right wing. Couturier contract is almost unspeakable with 7 years left at 7.7 mill year. I have been watching sports a long time and I can't recall any team with so many unmovable contracts for extended period of time. Check this out: Ellis (6.25 mill year 4 more years), Couturier (7.7 mill year 7 more years), Atkinson (5.8 mill year 2 more years), Sanheim (6.2 mill year 8 more years). Those contracts would shake any team to the core.

  2. I believe the organization is using wishful thinking that the lines form like this: 1) Cates, Farabee, Tippett. 2) Couts, TK, Atkinson. 3) Frost, Laughton, Allison. 4) Poehling, Deslauriers, Hathaway. Kycksell as the extra forward. I'm not so confident, I expect Couts or Atkinson to join Ellis on LTIR. Foerster & Desnoyers make it. As for the D: 1) Sanhiem & Risto. 2) York & Walker. 3) Seeler & Stall. Zamula gets the extra man spot since he's out of options.

  3. The Flyers have until Saturday to sign Frost. Saturday is the day those free agents can hit the open market.
