Red Wings were down in the series 3 out of 4 rounds. One of them being an elimination game situation. This HAS to be the greatest NHL team ever assembled.

As a Wings fan, and a fan that lives in MS, I loved this final. It was still a time where a LOT of fans thoought that hockey in the south was a joke, and that the Canes wouldn't be able to hang with the Wings. Not only did they hang with them, they pushed the Wings to their limit.
awood – how the game has changed. When I watched it at the time, it didn't seem all that aggressive hockey that I remember. Looking back at these clips it was head-hunter rules. Lots of penalties called – many more should have. As great a winner as Lidstrom is, I really thought Hasek should have won MVP. 6 shutouts (record at the time) and quality starts every game. Great job awood per usual. Is this your favourite Wings team ?
