They had trouble scoring in that series as well as they have in previous playoff series. I don't know how you can call Austin Matthews. The best hockey player in the world. When he guy won't even fight back when someone punches him…. Just not competitive enough which is what we see you're after year in the playoffs … And Marner shrinks in the playoffs, too, seems to me.
I'm sorry but Ryan Reaves just makes you worse. I would be utterly stunned if he has any positive on ice impact, or a meaningful impact on the vibe of the team.
Matt Martin doesn't need to drag anybody into the fight. In 2020 and 2021, the whole Islanders team was able to drag their opponents into the mud. It was team culture to do so. It worked, and they over achieved. Why would Ryan Reeves be able to do anything in Toronto? The team culture, led by their captain and their coach, doesn't want it. Matt Martin was far more effective during the Islanders 7 playoff series wins over the last few years than he ever was as a Leaf because the Leafs team culture doesn't want that type of player to succeed.
