perfect if you believe in an accelerated rebuild – fits age-wise and salary-wise (more than PLD ever would have) He can play in the NHL —– which may or may not be true of the picks the Habs gave up for him. But those players are 3 years plus away and this guy is here and ready to go – so win in my book.

The Avalanche is not done trading yet now With 2 first round picks and 37 pick in this year draft . Look for the Avalanche to package with Samuel G. To get a big name players.

As an Avs fan, I am happy to see Newhook get a better opportunity to grow with another organization. He's not big enough, fast enough or strong enough to create his own space on a cup contending team, but could grow into a good, productive player in a few years. He is listed as a C but definitely needs to be a LW on a line with a bigger C to open up room for him. Good Luck Alex!

I dont see this as the "Blockbuster" trade many are calling the Newhook trade, but this acquistion should certainly help to solidify the top 6 for sure. This move should also trigger a few other moves, especially if 'Hook plays on the wing. Pitlick, Guriev and Pezzetta and Dvorak might be feeling a little uneasy tonight as one or more of them could now be moved. Even a guy like Gally could be pushed down to the 4th line, but with his massive salary, is that a reality, or is he a potential trade asset too (with a ton of salary retention)? Fascinatiing chess game about to begin for Hughes' roster ahead of the Draft. Does the Newhook acquisition mean the Habs wont take a Center with the 5th pick? If it's me making the announcement at the podium in Nashville, Im praying that Will Smith is there at the 5 pick, so Newhook can play the wing and hopefully ease the pressure put on his smallish shoulders in Colorado. If Newhook is never better than a 3W in Montreal, then Hughes will have clearly LOST this trade in a draft year that is perceived as very deep. Let's hope that Hughes and Marty can find a line and position for him so he can flourish and eventually become a 55-65 point player.
As of right now this is an overpayment for Newhook as of right now… later on this could look like and even trade but it could also look like a HORRIBLE trade… we will have to see later on… but now we have 3rd overall, 15th overall and 16th overall from
The 2019 draft.. Dach is the 6 highest point producer from that draft and Caufield is 8th and Newhook is 9th in Total Points…. But absolutely no way this trade becomes a steal for Montreal lol.. players available at 31st and 37th project to be better then a Newhook… this won’t be a steal at best it will be even.
Newhook was also 165 pounds when he was drafted… this shit about Michkov being “Small” is just ridiculous Michkov weighs 169 pounds right now and he will probably be 185 pounds when he gains more weight maybe even 190 like Newhook… Montreal needs to draft Michkov this shit about him being “small” is fucking stupid.
It never hurts your Team by adding a Good Newfoundlander to the mix but when you look at the whole deal , you can spin it that it looks like Newhook for the 31st pick and Russ Colton from Tampa . Nobody has a Crystal Ball but it may end up being a win for 3 Teams .
