He’s not wrong and I feel the same way, they went into this offseason noting and saying that scoring was the priority this offseason. The offseason has arrived and…….
No scoring, Michkov falling, legit argument that if not for the Russia Factor he’d best Bedard as the number 1 overall pick and he INSTANTLY solves the scorer we don’t have in the prospect pipeline immensely. Why not package up the 17th, two seconds, and prospects and one of the two 1st next year to get him?
You need that dynamic name player to put asses in seats and views on primetime, why did we play so conservative and draft on day 2 a bunch of no names who probably will never make the roster and at best are bottom six dwellers?
Mike is right despite what the dickriders of Yzerman say, this was not a good draft and could’ve been better if Yzerman and Co were willing to wheel and deal that draft capital for better players
Mike valenti is an idiot when it comes to hockey Steve yzerman had to take over the worst situation of all time with the worst prospect Pool in 2019. since then he’s made little to no mistakes we have a very nice prospect pool and excellent financial situation nothing like a few years ago.
1 nfl draft is like 6 nhl draft bradholdmes was able to draft game changers after the 5th round valenti don’t talk about hockey Steve is the best gm in sports u can’t force things u tard
Yzerman inherited an empty cupboard and people think we should be elite by now. How stupid. You get only so many 1st round picks. Also, they got robbed of numerous 1st overall picks by the rigged lottery. Build from the draft and you will win. That's how the dynasty he captained won 4 cups in 11 years. These guys are stupid.
The Red Wings may have been the worst collection of hockey players ever on the same roster when Yzerman took the GM position. It took him two years to get rid of the horrible contracts. It was always going to take this long.
These guys know nothing on how it works to build a team. Let’s not forget we might have a real play driver in Raymond, Seider and the dman we drafted looks to have elite offensive talent. Don’t forget Cossa and the US junior goalie who looks real good
Have I lost faith in Yzerman? No. Am I past the honeymoon period of blind faith? Absolutely. We are at the point now where we should be adding pieces and talking about the playoffs, but looking at this roster, we're easily another 3-4 years out. That would put the rebuild at almost 10 years, something we all flipped out about when Holland said it. No team sees success without a superstar scorer and we dont have a player who even looks like they could develop into one at this point. Teams like Ottawa and Buffalo started their latest rebuilds around the same time we did and their rosters both look lightyears ahead of ours. Dont talk to me about how long it takes to build in the NHL either. Vegas created a team out of a bunch of players other teams deemed not good enough to protect and they've already built a Cup winning team. Seattle did the same (a roster that many people heavily criticized) and has already made the playoffs. That caller was an absolute clown too. He talks about going to get a stud in free agency in a year that is historically bad for free agents, then when asked for a name, he gives a guy that isnt even a free agent. To the blind faith fans, how long do you remain in blind faith mode? Do we give him carte blanc for 10 years? 15? He still has time in the offseason to make a splash and grab a guy like Nylander, Debrincat, Connor or Lindholm, but if he doesn't, my blind faith time will be finished.
For cryin out loud. There are minimal trades at this point because July 1, Free Agency is opena nd players can sign all over the place. This is when you will see the deals as teams get to know their CAP Space and how much they have to spend. THis guy does not have a clue. He Know stuff about a corner back at Iowa Ste, but he Knows little when it comes to hockey and hardly talks about the sport on his show. He needs to keep his yap shut before he understands what the total picture is. Starting this Saturday July 1st you will wee trades and I bet Stevie will b active.
This is truly an awful take. So Mike, what's the alternative to collecting draft capital and developing said assets? Trade for DeBrincat, sign him to an 8/9AAV, thereby preventing us from having the ability to sign our prospects once they get past their entry level deals? Not to mention DeBrincat is small and the NHL is clearly moving towards larger more durable players. You either believe the picks he's making will turn out to be good NHL players or you don't. Look at the drafts since '19 and tell me how many players not drafted in round 1 are playing in the NHL at a high level? The ONLY one I found was JJ Peterka. SY's 1st rounders include, Mo Seider – ROY (not considered a top 10 prospect in his class), Lucas Raymond – 2nd best player in his draft class at #4, Edvinsson/Kasper – We'll have a better idea this year. The only D drafted in Edvinsson's draft class to actually play was the #1 pick Power. This isnt the same situation as his time in TB where SY inherited #1 overall future HOF Stamkos and #2 overall future HOF Hedman. What made Tampa special was drafting Kucherov in round 2, Cirelli in Round 3, Point in ROUND 3 and Vasilevsky in round 1 and subsequently flipping #3 overall Drouin for Sergachev (64 points this season). The common theme here is the foundation of Tampa's 2 cups and 4 finals appearances was built through the draft! And again, Stevie Y didnt inherit a Stamkos or Hedman when we got here, nothing even close if you want to make the argument that TB made the final 4 years after being hired by TB. SY has earned the right via track record to say "this is what were going to do and I dont care what you think". If you have a counter point, I'd love to hear it.
It took Steve Yzerman 10 years to get the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Stanley Cup, which resulted mind you and three finals appearances and two Stanley cups a 10 year process. It took Jim Devellano not Ken Holland from drafting Steve Yzerman to the 1997 Stanley Cup was a 13 to 14 year process. It is a 10 year process when you take over a dumpster fire rather than starting from a clean slate.
Mans, whatcha all talking about. This is Steve Yzerman. He can have 50 years of not even making the playoffs and he will be good in my book. C'MON..Steve Yzerman. Dont you dare say anything negative about him Mike and Rico. He is the man!!
Mitckov wanted to go to philly he literally told them and look you wanna make a few playoff appearances or you wanna contend for 10 plus years alot of teams think there ready sign big free agents make big trades then they make playoffs for 7 years and do nothing and it's not 5 years he came into a horrible situation stevie had too fix the books the contracts he had were brutal he got the books right now he will make moves there is still a whole offseason to make a trade and 3 years come on this isnt the NBA man you cant draft 4 guys trade for a guy or 2 sign a few free agents you have to build a full team 12 forwards 6 dman and a good goalie you wanna just make playoffs for a few years or you wanna contend for 10 plus years and win 2 or more cups
You should also know stevie never shows his cards tho we think he will do this then he does something completely different and his choice was the right one we are also not even out of all those bad contracts we are still paying JA in his buyout
I think that the market just isn't there right now for what needs ro be done. Sucks not getting someone yet but i think he will make the big moves when the time is right.
In year 24 of the Yzerplan with no playoff appearances (or any realistic hopes of one), the mindless Yzerman cult members will still be saying “duh, I love Yzerman/have full faith in him/be patient etc etc etc.
Lets go sign 2 or 3 players in free agency for 8 mil X 6+ yrs and make the playoffs! Just to get bounced in the 1st or 2nd round…. In the NHL it literally takes a decade to build a contending team that can win several cups. How about you wait until he has a roster for 23-24 before you talk garbage. Total eye roll garbage this video is…..
What a clown show this is. Moritz Seider was Y's first pick and drafted in 2019. Everyone whined about that pick but 2 years later, he won the Calder and everyone shut up. You should shut up again. Taking the salary cap into consideration, you cannot sign lame free agents then expect to pay all the great young players coming up. Clown show with no clue about hockey First and last time i watch this show. Loudmouth idiots
Can y’all chill. This is crazy. “Stevebot” myself sure. But the wings are moving in the right direction. The FAs this year are rough. Trades are hard because everyone wants to sell high. Why be a wild card team in a stacked division too. I’m confused. Sure question it but let’s look at the whole picture. Who in the Atlantic is falling out who in the Atlantic are we surpassing. This is wild, challenge for playoffs this year make playoffs next and continue to grow.
Imagine thinking you think you can make better hockey decisions than Steve Yzerman. Lmfao. He is doing an incredible job. He had a dumpster fire to start w. You're all clowns.
I grew up in the Detroit area, and I'm a lifetime avid fan of the Red Wings. I'm currently 69 years old, so I remember my dad taking me to the old Olympia Arena to see the likes of Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, and Norm Ullmam play. I was a big fan of Stevie Y as a player and respect his knowledge of the game. However, I agree with you that his comment the other night at the NHL draft was a little disheartening. It sounded like he was saying basically that we are still in a rebuilding phase, and we won't be a competitive team for a few years yet. It sounded almost like he was telling the fans to forget about the Wings being any good this coming season. Well after the playoff drought over the past seven years and Yzerman's fifth year into the rebuild, I was hoping for a little more. Draft picks are nice, but these players are crapshoots and can take years to develop into NHL players (if they do at all).
bunch of idiots. Wings and Stevie Y did all kinds of whellin and dealing on Saturday as I told everyone on here. Why dont you guys learn about the sport and how it works. YEs, we picked up some good draft choices and then went to work on Saturday and there may be more to come.
He knows what hes doing. Holland almost destroyed the franchise with the contracts he had and that ridiculous playoff streak when they weren't even a contender after 2011 2012. They had some injuries last year and were in playoff contention. Yzerman is doing what needs to be done to build a contender. Would like to see more goal scoring and I am sure he will address it.
We have the 23rd worst offense in the NHL, and he signs a guy who has never broke 20 goals, and just broke 35 points while playing 20 minutes a game for the defending Stanley Cup Champions 5 million dollars for FIVE YEARS!

Year 5 of a rebuild? We still have Abby on the books. Holland left this org a shit show. People need to be patient.
Because Valenti clearly knows more about hockey than Stevie Y 🙄

They need to make the playoffs or start looking at other GMs.
