I swear the fact this guy is a unicorn makes it so hard to project what he’ll make. But in no way should he be making more than 34. 11-12 range should be where he asks for 8 years.

This is assuming 34 takes enough of a discount to fit everyone in.

Leafs aren’t paying Marner anything above 13 million on his next contract and even that number is ridiculous considering his horrible playoff performances.

We’ve already got two contracts to piss and shit ourselves over. Do we need to add a third?

If that ever ends up being a legit ask (doubtful) I will help him pack his shit personally.

I’m so excited we can all go after a new player for a completely hypothetical contract ask, I’ve been getting bored of directing all that at Nylander and Matthews these past few weeks.

Can this be the next site we ban? It’s absolute trash. Clickbait titles and no substance. Mostly just a tweet or or a quote from someone else’s article with no new information or insight.

can we ban these dumb clickbait leaf websites

He is going to get a raise that’s obvious but that’s 2 years down the line. However no way I’d pay over 13 million.

This all comes down to Matthews. If he takes a discount on this contract, the others will fall in line. If he doesn’t. They won’t. This is the first year a team with a ten million dollar player won a cup. If Matthews signs for something like 13Mx4 it means that neither he nor the Leafs are interested in winning. If the team isn’t interested in winning, why should anyone else take a discount?

I’m sick of the daily sky is falling predictions.

Here’s exactly what should happen. Offer Marner exactly what he is making now. If he doesn’t like it, let him go to market, where absolutely no one will give him more than his current contract.

If they do, great. They screw themselves. The fact is, he was overpaid when he signed. His current contract is what he should have graduated to on his next one.
