Mario Lemieux scored 100 points in his rookie season. Malkin scored 85 points in his rook season. They might not be as big as Byfield, but they were pretty big centers regardless. Not saying Byfield will bust but hopefully the talent evaluators know what they are doing and can move him while he still has value. Us draft Stutzle people are basically redeemed after taking much slander. I'm really tired of Byfield, Turcotte, and Kaliyev. All of these guys are just nothing of what i expected. I'd like to see them all go.
People need to recognize that PLD is the proverbial bull in a China shop type of forward and the Kings desperately needed some truculence in the lineup.
While Gabe was physical when it came to puck protection, he wasn’t what one would call “physical “ as far as imposing his will. LA simply needed a “different “ type of forward on the roster.
Bottom line is we swapped a very talented player for another very talented player. Yes, losing AI stings, but at 29 he was ultimately a cap casualty and Kups development was glacial at best. The 2nd was over pay but when you juxtapose the Kings top 3 pivots against the rest of the West, it is top notch.
Ultimately, you cheer for the logo on the front, not the name on the back. I’m hoping PLD comes in motivated to prove his critics wrong and I wish nothing but the best for Lardo, AI, and Kups in Winnipeg.
