Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has signed forward Conor Garland to a five-year contract worth an average annual value of $4.95 million.

I hope he’s worth it! It appears as though he will be, and I’m excited to see what he does on Horvat or Pete’s wing, and I could see him even having success with Dickinson. I also hope that Gadjovich gets a long look on a scoring line to see if he can translate his ability at the AHL level to score almost at will around the net in the NHL too (with Petey, especially, because that’s one guy that would have no problem protecting his teammate and meal ticket!

Why five years?? Is Benning intentionally trying to ruin the team?
I'd never even heard of Connor Garland before he was traded here (don't spend much time following the Coyotes, lol). But he sounds like he should be a good top 6 addition. The contract seems a bit expensive, but if they can fit it in with all the other contracts, then fine.
Holtby mistake buy out Garland Good sighed , He's style play like Boeser Depietro time . right hand Defense too old and slow
The upside of this off-season is that Benning "played" his part (and he's not finished).
The team is better financially & talent-wise. Arguments against & aside, the team should
be a reasonable contender for a play-off spot and I suspect the chemistry on this team
will be the best we've seen in a couple of years. Cheers Mr. Benning.

Not a waaayyy overpay but definitely not a bargain either. This team is going nowhere.
I think this is a little bit of an over payment. 3.6-4.0 million would of been good.
I'm thinking this is another one of Bennings over paid contracts. Should have been a 4 year 4million Cap Hit with an escalating salary(2.5M,3.5M,4.5M,5.5M) I hope I'm wrong
Our team is shaping up pretty nicely. Shmidt I’m fine losing and Pearson. I think Podkolzin comes in and can easily take Pearson’s spot on the 2nd line.
Good signing. I'm glad the term is a little longer than the usual 3 or 4 years in order to stave off UFA a while longer. Garland is already 25. Garland is a really good player and I think this contract will look like a shrewd move in a couple of years when his value is more apparent. Thanks Clay!

If they can get the other guys resigned and 86 Myers' contract for a defensive 4-5 defensemen, they're in fantastic shape compared to where they were last season. These are the contracts Benning needs to be signing. Not $6 million for Tyler Myers, who peaked in his rookie season and has never been great defensively. We have enough offensive d-men at this point. We need another elite version of Travis Hamonic. A steady stay at home defensemen who can make a good first pass and isn't a terrible skater. Physicality would be a bonus. Myers may have made sense at the time, but now he's redundant. If we can get a cheaper guy who is strictly defensive, that would be great. There has to be a 4-4.5 mil d-man who fits that description out there that we can trade Myers and a 4th rounder for. That would be perfect, given our d-core at the moment.
