  1. Thanks DK. Hope you had a good weekend. Unseasonably hot here in Newfoundland. Maybe you will be able to attend the Ottawa-Pens pre-season game in Halifax and fly up here for a quick visit. You would love it if you have not already yet been here. It would seem that Yager has at least two more years in the WCHL and still needs to work on some more things. He will continue to grow out and get stronger with pro training oversight. Great choice and I am guessing the Pens think that he will be a center instead of as a winger. I am not sure he would be ready for the AHL but you have seen him live and I have not so it will be great to see him at training camp. So many young players are "ruined." The worst thing we could do is bring him into the AHL until he is more ready for that level of competition. Great to have a good forward in our upcoming prospect pool!

  2. He is dessert. The pens need more meat and potatoes. A career minus player, a turnover machine and a career loser. No thanks.

  3. Only way the value goes up or stays pat (to me) is Karlsson stays with SJ for quarter to half season and consistently puts up last years numbers while the rest of the team flounders. Teams in running would have more cap flexibility other teams may be out already to 3rd party a deal etc and teams in running may be pressed for the extra push way more. Its way closer to nowsight than foresight which is what a deal right now would moreso be. Im not a word guy

  4. Once again, it was 101 points, not 102. It's not that important I guess, but if you are going to talk about someone in a manner in which you expect people to take you seriously, at least get the little things right. It's akin to people on the Pirates channel saying Haynes instead of Haines and expecting people to take their opinion without a heaping spoonful of salt

  5. The Karlsson statements were revealing. But not in a way the makes the Penguins any more likely to land his services. When he says he's at the end of his career and wants to win, that tells me he's probably less likely to want to join the Penguins than any of the other teams he mentions, all of which have a better chance at winning a cup with or without him. Even Toronto, as much as we like to poke fun at them, has a better team and better odds to win a cup this season and in the foreseeable future. They are currently ranked 3rd best odds to win the cup, and the Hurricanes are ranked 2nd. Even Seattle has been given better odds than the Penguins, and any of these teams over the next 4 years will have more realistic chances to get Karlsson the championship he wants.

The only way he comes to Pittsburgh, is if he doesn't reject them outright at any point in favor of these other teams, and SJ also decides that the Penguins are offering them the best return. Problem is: the Canes just signed Dmitry Orlov, which means they might be setting themselves up to offer Pesce to SJ (like a lot of people speculated). Pesce is a much more enticing and useful player to SJ's rebuilding cause than Petry. All of these teams will theoretically have better trade options than what the Penguins might offer, unless they go way and above and offer someone other than Petry and Granlund which is silly to begin with. Dubas and Spezza (for all we know that's why he was brought in) need to do a really good job of convincing Karlsson that he'll have just as good a shot to win a championship on an old, window shut team like the Penguins, AND give SJ something at least as good as these other teams will offer. If the Canes offer Pesce, the Penguins need to put up Pettersson. Petry won't cut it, and Granlund will get them laughed off the bargaining table.
