Honestly, I don't think Nemec's making the team out of camp will rely on if he is better than Smith or Miller, I believe it will be based on Bahl's play and whether or not he can cover for a player with zero NHL experience. Let's face it, Bahl only has 66 NHL games under his belt, so if Kevin is shaky in camp AT ALL, there is no way Nemec is paired with him.
I keep thinking about last year when we were in situations where we needed to win a face off and they would put Mikey out there to take it. With Tafoli being a good face off guy we don’t need to do that anymore depending on what line is out there.

You covered all the current talking points playing both sides wether we roll with 2 veterans or give holtz and nemec a shot. Training camp will show us a lot. Other than that our lineup is pretty much set. Looking forward to an exciting year and taking another big step in the right direction. The cup will be back in Jersey within the next 3 years and probably 2 in the next 5-6 years. That’s my prediction/hope.
Hats off to fitz for constructing this thing and sticking to his philosophy. And ray shero gets a little credit for drafting nico over nolan and flipping hall for bahl and a first that turned into Mercer.

It was refreshing to hear you guys wanting to stick with our current goaltending duel. This whole giving up on Vitek after one year was getting old and frustrating to hear from others.
If Luke makes his way onto the #1 power play unit, I would think they would add a right handed shot somewhere on the unit. Perhaps Toffoli
Boqvist ran out of runway here. As one Devils fan said, "most of the time you didn't notice he was on the ice." He didn't make egregious errors, like Miles Wood or Damon Severson but he never got to that next level. So, the Devils, with younger players they need to look at needing time, felt they needed to move on. Maybe this will get Boqvist to reach deeper and not settle for merely "not making any mistakes."
