So many breaks happened in that playoff run for the Rags…..unbelievable. But great to relive!
I was at Game 7 in 1994 and at this game. This remains the loudest I've ever heard the Garden. The last 1 minute of regulation and the first minutes of the OT of this Game 5 were some of the greatest moments for this organization that I have had the good fortune to see in person.
That was a great night. Too bad we tanked to the Devils in the next round. I thought we would go to the cup. Oh well, we got our chance this year. Just hope our guys keep it together and win it. It's been a long time since that cup has been in NY. I was a young man when we won last, I'm gettin old now! dont know if I can wait another 20 yrs!!

The reason why the capitals had to blow this lead late in the 3rd period of game 5 is because of Joel Ward. He costed his team the game by taking a double minor penalty. Now if the Capitals didn't take a double minor penalty, then the capitals would have won game 5 to take the series lead 3 games to 2 and go on to the eastern conference final, then.
Joel Ward ruined it for the capitals big time.

The lucky breaks the Rangers have gotten over the years vs the Caps. This, then in 15 when they were 1:41 away from elimination in Game 5 to have Kreider tie it and McDonaugh win it in overtime. Win Game 6, and of course Stepan in Game 7 (not as iconic as Matteau, Matteau) but arguably the modern day version of it.
I remember cursing this Rangers team all game. When they tied it I didn't even cheer. I yelled out "THANK YOU! ABOUT 🤬ING TIME"
I was so damn sick of them not scoring in the playoffs that I actually turned them off a few times to watch the Islanders-Penguins series because they were actually entertaining games.
To this day I hate Tortorella for this boring ass team and Gaborik for folding like a cheap suit in the playoffs.
