Hopefully now they can now place Muzzin on LTIR, trade Murray, send down Holmberg & waive Timmins to get cap compliant by the start of the season. It sucks because they will only have 20/23 players available. It's the more ideal situation though instead of buying Murray out
Jarnkrok was NON existent in the playoffs imo, i think he scored what? 1 goal in the 1st game when the score was 7-0? lol useless
I thought he would get 3.4M so i was 150k off. I do find this off that the leafs chose this route. Im trying to figure out if it was Treliving trying to show the fans hes not going to be a pushover like they thought Dubas was signing the core.. or if its something deeper.
COULD the leafs have been trying to get him as cheap as possible to then move him for a different goalie? I doubt it…but its possible.
You have Carter Hart hitting at just 3.9M 400k more then Samsonov now for this season atleast. If Sammy has another up year for the leafs and if Hart stays on the horrible flyers team. you can expect Sammy to be making MORE then Hart after next season.
Im just wracking my brain if now the Leafs go a different route and trade for Carter Hart. Could they put together a package with the starting point being Sammy, and Jarnkrok plus some picks and prospect possiby going either way?
I really like the idea of Hart playing 50-55 games for this team. Perhaps thats what theyre setting themselves up for come next season. I cant immagine Hart would want to resign with a rebuilding Philly team… could they be wanting to go after him come free agency… who knows.

So Murray will give up 6 mil if he is bought out and doesn't go on Robidas island? If no one wants to trade for him, who is going to sign him? Plus whatever he loses on the retained contract.
I think this is them not wanting to commit to Sammy Long term. I believe theres a goalie coming up next season in Free Agncy they have their eye on. They have so many great options come next seasons free agency. Carter Hart, Hellebuyck, (both pretty much guarenteed to be moving on) Laurent Broissoit, Swayman if he gets 1 year, Kahkkonen, Comrie Theres some decent goalies coming up. The main one obviously being Carter Hart IMO. i believe he fits the leafs window much better then any of the other ones.
Gio is not a everyday player. Either Jarnkrok or Brodie have to go. Timmins is needed to play minimum 35 games. Trade Brodie to Nashville for Lauzon, he is a physical guy who makes 2M and the cap issue is solved. The leafs might have to add a Marlie to sweeten the deal but the issue is over.
Rumors are rumors, but i heard Brodie could be out the door. If they could replace him with someone cheaper. And buy out Murray, that could be interesting, and we get to keep our depth.

Ideally you trade Brodie. He is the most replaceable player on this roster for the money he makes. Not developing a good young dman during this recent core has been their Achilles heal in this cap hell that Gary created.
Get rid of Brodie and Robertson and Giordano
Trade Brodie for picks
Nylander, Robertson and Lilligren for Elias Lindholm and Chris Tanev. Domi can play the wing and keep Lafferty. If they want to get tougher for the playoffs it doesn’t make sense to trade Lafferty and keep Robertson.

Trading Jarnkrok at the 1.7 million he makes per year for the next 3 years is THE most retarded thing I've heard yet ..😂. Robertson needs to GO…. Brodie also "may" be on the move. , He's regressed. Nylander is playing out the season.
Nice job explaining the cap gymnastics needed. What's done is done, but wish they had stayed away from Klingberg. His 4M is really causing a salary cap crunch, and he's useless for strong D play. Just a guess, but suspect Samsonov wanted something in the 4-4.5M range, and wouldn't come down from it. Leafs likely had 3.5M in mind, so they ended up getting what they wanted. Brodie is their best defensive d-man, and plays a lot of the tough minutes. Would not be wise to trade him.

Sammy gets the big cheese so Murray will get bought out or traded and maybe Brodie could get bought out or traded. I looked into it and it helps both the players and the Cap to just put them on LTIR. The players make the full amount of pay under LTIR but if they get bought out they only get 2/3's spread over 2 years so there would still be a cap hit if they're bought out. Under LTIR there is no cap hit. I wouldn't be surprised if they both go on LTIR. Makes more sense for both sides. If there are injuries during the season it would give them more depth.
Buy out Murray that 4.7 Trade both Brody and Nylander that's 13 Million 17.7 leaving 5.5 under The trade should be for Karlsson with SJ retaining the amount that makes the leafs cap compliant The sharks have more than enough cap space to get this done. Imagining the money he would make off the ice Karlsson wants this more than the leafs do.
I HOPE no other teams help the Leafs out of cap hell!

IMO Timothy Liljgren is as good as gone really soon… I think it spoke volumes when Keefe sat him over Justin Holl. I think Keefe knows he needs the bigger Dmen.
What about a trade sending him to Chicago or Calgary for Zadorov or Murphy both would have to be 50% retained in calgarys deal would have to be by a third team. but packaging both Jarnkrok and Liljgren for one of the defenmen would be nice. Would still give you the space to carry Timmins as well.
I know the leafs picked up Gambrell. But im wondering if Motte would sign a 1 year 850k contract with the leafs…Probably not… My guess is hes looking for a longer term deal after just signing a 1 year deal. but this may not be the best time for him to go to a team like a Chicago, or a Arizona just to get the most money possible. If he goes to a good team he would be able to cash in alot more next year… just a thought he would be a nice fit on either the 3C of 4C.
The leafs are already taking advantage of the players wanting 1 year deals and this could quite honestly become the deepest forward group the leafs have had in a LONGGGG Time.
