Now THIS is what Habs fans want to hear…

The Montreal Canadiens made a huge trade with the Colorado Avalanche in which they acquired Alex Newhook in exchange for a few picks in this years draft along with another prospect. Habs fans let me know what you’re thinking of this NHL news in the offseason!

  1. I like the trade, you never know what will be available behind door #31 or #37. Looks like Newhook has big league speed and skill. Hopefully we can sign him to a good contract!

  2. brutal, never trade away that much in a stacked draft, for a player like Newhook. He's a total Gallagher, will fizzle out. That late 1st round pick and early second were gold in this draft, Sakic is amazing.

  3. I like the trade. I trust Hughes he was right about Dach , Matheson and Monahan. I think this is shaping up a lot like how Tampa built there team. They went sorry developing prospects. I think st Louis is an excellent coach for these kinds of players

  4. Anybody saying they know who won this trade is lying lol. We won't know for sure for a couple years most likely. Hughes has given me no reason to doubt him yet though, so I'm optimistic.

  5. This an amazing trade. I listened to Tony M's podcast last night and he spoke with his coach for 2 years at Boston College. The guy was amazed the Habs got this kid saying he will be the fastest skater on the ice night and night out. To es of energy, small but thick, à la St Louis when he started out in the NHL. Lots of goal scoring potentiel and at the start will Center the second line but potential to be a second line Center that can also play the wing. To make your videos better, that the kind of I formation you need to gather and share, not just asking what we think about it man !!!

  6. I have mixed feeling about it. Newhook seems like he's full of talent and if he turns things around, it's a fantastic deal. But it's still a gamble because if he doesn't turn things around, the Habs lost 2 good picks in a deep draft. What would have the last draft looked like had the Habs not picked Beck and Hutson?

That being said, I do think Newhook will do better in Montreal. I expect him to keep growing like Dach did and if he becomes a 30 goal scorer, then that's awesome! I've been saying since last season that the Habs have too many prospects. They can't sign more than 50 players. Trading away those 2 picks for 1 prospect helps reduce pressure on the team. There are so many young players that need time to develop such as Farrell, Mesar, Heineman, Beck, Roy, Kidney, Mailloux, Hutson, Trudeau, Struble and all the rookies from last season. The Habs are oozing with prospects. Loosing 2 draft pick this draft won't sink them. It might actually help keep the boat steady.

  7. I like the fact that Newhook is a Habs now, seems like a good addition, however I get the feeling these two picks will come back to bite us in the arse later on. I think if I were Hughes I would've rather sent just one of the picks and a decent prospect instead, again much like the Dach trade where it cost the Habs basically just Romanov. Dunno though. If Newhook really does enter the 60 point range, then it might still be way more worth than those two picks. Time will tell I guess!
