Jarvis should probably be higher too. But not higher than Dawson, of course.

Going first overall will give him the benefit of the doubt way longer than a normal prospect. But if he doesn’t perform this season that good will will disappear. Same with Byfield, no reason he realistically would be above Mercer at this point but there is still a lot of hope riding on that potential.

No matter what, he was a steal. Great drafting from
    Fitz and the scouting department.

I guess this list is still factoring in potential, which isn’t unfair as this class is still super young. If it were based off what they have done so far, Mercer has to be top 3.

For what its worth, I wouldnt rather have anyone on THIS Devils team besides Stutzle. Mercer might be my favorite Devil and is a perfect fit for what we are building.

Wheeler always overrates his original picks on a redraft. He did the same thing last year because he has a vendetta against Seider. Since he originally rated him as like a second rounder.

His content is weak anyway and he always has an insane amount of grammatical errors and typos for a professional journalist. Also there are tons of better draft analysts than him

I still think Laffy can pull it together. I’m less confident in the Rangers ability to develop him. I bet he tears up a World Championships soon

  7. Mercer doesn’t have the theoretical ceiling of Laf so it makes sense

But it Laf is the same this year, any benefit of the doubt is gone.

While I still think Laf has some potential and will get better as a player in the next 2 years, I find it weird to rank Potential over actual Output. Stats matter. There’s a reason why Mercer is doing better than Lafreniere and it is not because Mercer has gotten lucky or because Laf has less PP time.

This may sound CRAZY….but hear me out please…maybe Mercer is just a *better player* than some of the guys above him??? What do I know
