Will still admit I did not think Johnson would sign with Buffalo but happy to be wrong on that. Great job on the front office for getting that deal done.
> Nathan Paetsch, named an assistant on Appert’s staff July 10, developed a special bond with Johnson over the past three seasons as a development coach with the Sabres. Though their relationship began with hockey, it’s evolved into a friendship — “We lean on each other,” Paetsch said — with lengthy phone calls that sometimes have nothing to do with the game.
> That will continue in the AHL, where it’s expected Johnson will play a top role as a rookie.
> “He’s an excellent skater,” Paetsch said. “He’s always got such a high work ethic. That’s what makes him special. Hockey games, in practice, he’s always working to get better, and he puts his best foot forward every single day.”
Really excited to see what Paetsch can do as a coach. If he can find even a fraction of the success that Peca had with the forwards, it’s going to do wonders for the future blue line. With Johnson, Novikov, Lindgren Komarov, Strbak and McCarthy Buffalo needs Rochester to just develop one of those into a solid 4-6 defensemen over the next couple of seasons in Rochester. This is the massive advantage that Buffalo has with Dahlin/Power/Samuelsson being so young and controlled by the team for years. You just need to build for the backend.
