The Montreal Canadiens gave Alex Newhook a new 4 year, $2.9 AAV contract this week, and Alex was made available to the press once the ink dried. He, of course, commented about his time with the Colorado Avalanche and made some interesting remarks about how he was used, going as far as to say he did not get enough opportunity with the Avs. Hmmmm…

Sakic and Forsberg Core is miles better than the present core. They are established winners. The present core needs two more Cups to pass Sakic/Forsberg core.
I think Newhook's development was sped up due to the strange injury- riddled season that we hopefully won't have this next season -knock on wood.
I actually expected us to keep him around at least one more year, but with players like Kaut fizzling out and criticism from some saying we didn't do enough to plug in a solution for a missing Landy, I think that may have accelerated Newhook's departure.
I do like the moves they made in the off-season so far, though and wish Newhook the best as he seems like a good, talented kid.
Seems like the role he needs to be in top 6 LW. Was a role solidified by established players. Doesn't seem like he's an effective center. He'll have that opportunity in Montreal with a coach and team philosophy to help him flourish and have that roster stability. I think Newhook's speed/skill will compliment Suzuki & Caufield's game and add a missing dimension. Regardless.. basically Newhook & Barron for Chiarot & Lehkonen. Habs rebuild going nicely. Thanks for the perspective & content.
These comments are kind of sad. He said nothing but positive things about his former team to the Montreal media. I'm surprised to find so many Avs fans on social media dumping on the guy. It does sound as if a lot of Colorado fans feel the team is better off without him. But I did like the good cop/bad cop way Newhook was treated in the video. It was a really effective way to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of his game.
I object to the MTL comments. Colorado gave him all the chances and he failed over and over and over again. He played third or fourth-line center, after failing in the second line and there was nothing in the playoffs! I would have traded him last season. He is just not physical enough in his play and not creating enough scoring chances. Perhaps MTL will send him for 2 years to the AHL, where he belongs in my opinion. I would be very surprised if he finishes his contract in MTL playing in their NHL team all 4 years.

As a habs fan, we overpaid but I'm still very intrigued in what Newhook can bring to the team. He seems reliable and can play any forward position. We also, need a good bumper guy on the PP. I am one of the patient fans here in Montreal, we will have to wait and see!
He is not what people think he is if you can't pick up your game with what was around u then by by this is good don't make it others problem fault

The Avs haven’t been food about developing its young talent over the past 5ish years. Wasting time on guys like megna and compher with more limited ceilings then jerking the chain around on guys like newy and ranta wit much higher ceilings. Thats been my one critique of our org for awhile is our farm system isnt handled well
Best core group is now. They came from nothing to a cup and most likely getting 1 or 2 more in their era. And very true the game 25 years ago was far different than today.
To be fair, he was answering question, so ended up agreeing with the question. Something like: Do you think, It will be easier to play for a team that is in rebuilt and can live with errors, compare to a team that is competing for playoff? Dumb loaded reporter question.

I think missing the entire playoffs is the least painful. Assuming this roster something significant as far as injuries to the top 6 or Makar would have to happen but at least you get a much better draft pick. Game 7 in the finals means nothing unless you win and you get basically a second round draft pick at that point. Yikes
