Patrice Bergeron Retirement Press Conference (English)

BOSTON, MA — Patrice Bergeron addressed the media on Wednesday to discuss his decision to walk away from hockey and the Boston Bruins after 19 seasons.

“I wish I could play forever and never have to do this, but eventually you have to move on. The body tells you things sometimes,” Bergeron said Wednesday. “I had an idea this year that it was most likely my last year. I wasn’t sharing it with many people, but some guys knew there was a chance. … They knew at my exit meeting [after the season] it was a possibility, but I didn’t want to close the door completely. It’s a big decision and I didn’t want to make the wrong one.”

Bergeron, 38, thanked the city of Boston for taking him under its wing when he was drafted at just 18 years old.

  1. Great player. Unfortunately during the last twenty years, the Bruins lost seven Game 7s in Boston. Bergeron played in all seven of those games. How different would Bruins' history be if they won those games.

  2. One of the most classy players in hockey !! We in Boston are going to miss him !! Have to respect his decision and wish him nothing but the absolute best for pertrice and family !!

  3. He's a special player, but you and I have to make this decision sooner. He could of told Don Sweeney sooner, but he didn't! He's not greatfull. He owns the club and he didn't have to tell Don sooner

  4. If he was a real Bruin, he would stay in Boston, but his wife wants to go home. She can hardly speak English

  5. If he would stay in Boston and help kids in the ahl, but that's not going to happen, his wife wants to go home.

  6. A Boston sports legend for 20 years retires and all sports radio stations here can talk about are the suckbag Patriots and first day of training camp……unbelievable

  7. I’ve always said that 2013 if Bergeron wasn’t playing with all the injuries we now know of now …. Then I honestly think we would have one against Blackhawks…. I’m sure plenty doubters will say I’m a fool and have no idea what I’m talking about … but don’t forget he was so banged up he wasn’t taking face offs … and just think about what injuries he played with in game 6….. if he was 100% healthy you really think they would have lost …. Who knows …. Maybe they would have … but in my mind if we have 100% healthy Bergeron we would have taken cup in 7…. Ok so now let me have it all the haters and all the “dude you have no idea what your talking about “ 6:36 6:42 crowd
