The Jets cause they don't have to pay him lol. He's a good captain but my god does his contract handicap us. Without him, we could still have Buch. I mean if we gotta move on from Lindgren to make cap space eventually, while still paying Trouba, I'm gonna lose it. 8 million for a player worth maybe 4.5 on a good day.
Pionk and Ville leino are good NHL players but Trouba is a more physical DMan, I like Trouba I hate his Contract he is not worth 8 million.
The Jets won the trade easy
Short term draw long term loss. Side note if the cap went up like expected it would have been a draw longer term. So it was worth the risk at the end of the day you have to take risks and this wasn’t a crazy one.
The Rangers had to trade Pionk because they has so much young talent on defense that he was never going to get a chance to play. Adam Fox, K'Andre Miller, and Ryan Lindgren are all better than Pionk

Jets hands down. as you will read. I am not a fan of Trouba. At the time of the trade Pionk was under $2mil player. Trouba was being paid $5.5mil. I get a kick out of the guys that say Pionk had to go because the Rangers were overladen with Defensive talent. UHH? Trouba is also a defenseman. So that is a stupid argument to justify getting rid of Pionk. I get the numbers game but here's the ultimate stupidity in this trade. You need to go back to the 2019 trade deadline. Kevin Hayes was traded to the Winnipeg Jets at the deadline for a 2019 1st Round pick, Brendan Lemieux and a "Conditional" 2022 4th rd pick. On June 3rd-2019 Hayes was dumped off to the Flyers for just a "5th Round Pick" in 2019 draft. So now just 14 days later on June 17th (only 4 days before 2019 Draft) The Rangers trade Pionk and the fuckin 1st round pick, they got for Hayes, back to the Jets for Trouba. Who was just 14 days away from becoming an RFA on July 1st. It was known Trouba wanted out of Winnipeg and wanted NY for her career. Now you have to commend Trouba for that. But you have to say WTF to Gorton and Davidson. They had a bargaining chip for Trouba and somehow ended up giving a young defenseman on the rise and their (Now guilt ridden 1st rounder for Hayes?). Now after getting Trouba they lost all bargaining with him because you know that Winnipeg shopped the shit out of him and no-one wanted to deal with the contract he was looking for. So now they over-pay. Funny how I have many people try to tell me that he got paid the going rate at the time. Dumbest thing I ever heard. Out of at least 160 roster eligible defenseman in the league the going rate for a defenseman was to be paid 8th highest overall. More then Victor Hedman, Chris Letang, and John Carlson? To name a few. $8mil/per for 7years with a a NMC modified after 5th year played Now 2019-2020 season, Trouba plays his first year in NY. He is the #1 guy. Plays like shit. 70GP,-7G,-20A,-27TP,-neg.12 +/-,ATOI-22:19,-43.6CorsiFor%. While the 3mil/per Pionk 71GP,-6G,-39A,-45TP,-pos.10 +/-,ATOI-23:23,-55.1CorsiFor%. Turns out Trouba can't puck handle with his head up or he'll lose it. Gets burned left and right. Can't pin a guy on the boards coming down his side. If you watch he isn't good at skating backwards towards his right side. All his hits are driving to his left. And because of that issue he tends to drift towards the center giving on rushers cushion to drive deep along the boards. Then everyone starts blaming Brady Skjei for not carrying the top paid defenseman on the team. If you ask me Skjei was on the rise and having to over cover for Trouba hurt him. Look at how good he has played in Carolina. Then the ROOKIE Miller is paired with him. And I read all these idiots complaining how the rookie is hurting the "Rangers top paid veteran defenseman's" game. Are these people kidding me. The vet carries the rookie, not the other way around. Yeah he tends to block shots, but mainly because he cones up and gets hit. He doesn't sliding sacrifice his body like Lindgren does. Oh and he'll get a good hit on someone with their head down every. 8-10 games. But usually when he tries to get a guy to stand up he gets burned and points to Miller to get the guy as he meanders back. And now the Domino effect from this horribly overblown contract. Rookies Fox and Lindgren outplay him, Then the new rookie, Miller shows he has much better puck handling and skating skills. And in 2022 the 2020-2021 Norris Trophy winner Fox, is up for a new Contract. You can't just pay him a few 100,000 over Trouba now. So you pay him 9.5. And Lindgren will be next and then in 2 years Miller will get paid with the way his trajectory is. Rangers got lucky with Miller's 2 year deal this time around. So when we revisit Trouba's days in NY safe to say it will be less then impressive. But hey I hope I'm wrong. And he proves it in the next 3 years he is under contract. But I doubt it. He should have made an all-star game by now with that contract and the BS Beast moniker people give him. And that 2019 1st rounder Lets see how the Islanders Holmstrom turns out or the Predators Philip Tomasino pan out. One of them most likely would have been the Rangers 2019 20th over-all pick. .
Rangers win, because they trade their captains. Everyone and anyone is better than Trouba. Show me stats that makes him worthwhile for his cost.
