The Leafs couldn't trade Tavares for half the money he earns. They should have stayed true to the rebuild. The Tavares acquisition cost the Buds a Stanley Cup.

I agree. The Leafs need to trade him. But they also need to trade Matthews if he wants over 13 million. He is not worth it. He has proven time and time again, without Nylander or Marner on his wing he is nothing special, other than being a good two-way forward. His goal production disappears without a good set up man. He doesn't deserve to be the highest paid player in the league. If he takes 5 or fewer years, no more than 12 million. If he goes for full 8, only then do I entrain 13 to 14 per.

Nylander is 27 years old, you don’t want to sign him until age 37, forwards fall off a Cliff normally around age 32-33. Look at Lucic for example, signed 7 year deal age 28 had only 1 good season then stole money for 6 seasons with no movement clause…Same with Loui Erickson age 29 he had 30 goals, signed 6 year deal age 30 and for 6 years he did zero and laughed in face of team and refuses to retire. I would trade Nylander now when value is sky high for a high quality defenseman or 2.

Instead of using Timo Meier as a comparable (8 seasons at $8.8 M), Nylander insists on using Marner as a comp. In fact, he wants to use Marner’s next contract as a comp! Nylander isn’t even in Meier’s league never mind Marner.
Matthews should get traded to a Stanley Cup contender in the United States like the Kings , Rangers, Boston etc and build a Stanley Cup around Mitch Marner because Marner is the better player than Matthews and building a team around Marner and Nylander would be the way to go because those two because those are your top 2 best players and that is facts and that’s what I would do as a gm

He probably deserves 10 solely based on his playoff numbers but the reality of the salary cap and the fact the Leafs have three other players in 8 digit contracts is the problem.
