Rangers Need to Trade Barclay Goodrow

Long time no see! Feels good to be back! Today I entertain the idea of trading Barclay Goodrow to make room on the New York Rangers salary cap. Goodrow has been an excellent 2 way player for the Rangers over the last 2 season, also providing some surprising offense at times. However, with the Rangers offense on the right wing looking bland, the Rangers could use Goodrow to make room for another asset to be brought in. Let me know your thoughts below! Thanks for watching šŸ™‚

  1. Should Goody be traded? What you think about the Blake Wheeler signing, where does he fit!?

  2. Honestly after the Tarasenko signing, I don't see any need to trade Goodrow RIGHT NOW. Unless the Rangers want to sign Kane I don't see any reason to move Goodrow.

  3. I think, for RW, we enter the season as is. Letā€™s see where Kakko stands. If heā€™s where we need him to be, great. If not, then we look to trade for the RW we need. Or, even, re-sign Kane once/if heā€™s ready. I think weā€™re safe to roll with what we have before we make a move we MIGHT regret

  4. Welcome back brother!
    Hope you are doing well.
Iā€™m not a ranger fan but the obvious answer is yes.
You can never commit 6 years 21.5 million to a 4th line player regardless how good he is at his role.
You need that flexibility incase you run into trouble financially or you have cheaper and younger options in the system.
4th line is a revolving door and every 2-4 years there should be replacements.

  5. I agree. Goody has underperformed. It makes me sick we lost Tarasenko. We ABSOLUTELY need to dump Kane. He was the biggest bust at the trade deadline.

  6. Indeed. Having Goodrow with the Rangers isn't bad. He is good for the bottom six, and I was happy when he came in. It's just he's GROSSLY OVERPAID!! Like Goodrow is good, but HE IS NOT WORTH $3.6 MILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR FOR 6 YEARS!! It was bad the moment it was signed. Now yes, Goodrow has had his best seasons of his career, but those are 2 years. Like, the only way this deal will work is if he has these seasons or better for the next 4 years. Like, THAT contract is a contract signed for players in the Top 6. Not bottom sixers! Like, that signing is one of, if not THE reason why we lost Buchnevich. That contract should have been given to Buchnevich, not Goodrow. And Top 6 right wingers, the Rangers had that. They had Kakko, they sometimes had Lafreniere, we had Copp and Vatrano two seasons ago in our deep run to the Conference Finals, and this past season, they had Tarasenko and Patrick Kane. Like, if Goodrow wasn't grossly overpaid, we could have kept Copp and Vatrano. If Goodrow wasn't grossly overpaid, we could have kept Tarasenko and Kane. Like, this signing not only forced big players to leave due to the cap, but prevented us to make signings for players we desperately need (the fact we got Blake Wheeler and other players for less than $1M is a shocker). If Goodrow wasn't grossly overpaid, Lafreniere and Miller would have gotten extensions Day 1 of Free Agency. But nope. Due to the cap, it took weeks to get Miller extended, and Lafreniere is STILL UNSIGNED! I know parts of it is due to Drury signing too many minor league players and players we don't need (unless it is for the Hartford Wolf Pack), but still. If Lafreniere doesn't get extended and we lose him for nothing, Goodrow would be the reason why.

And Kakko doesn't suck. He is good. Sure, he is not Connor McDavid, but he does things. And he continues to improve and get better. Before you know it, he will eventually become elite. Like, that is how good players are made. It takes time, patience, and proper development. Same for Lafreniere. He is not elite (yet), but he is good and improves every season, and will become elite if he continues to improve. Like, you can't expect every player to be Connor McDavid. Like, look at Filip Chytil. He has been a bottom six centerman playing bottom six for many years, and it wasn't until this season where he blew up and proved that he can be in the Top 6 (like, if Chytil becomes our 2nd line center and places Vincent Trocheck in the 3rd line, I wouldn't be surprised). If Chytil can do it, so can Lafreniere and Kakko. And eventually, Brennan Othmann will do it too (as long as the Rangers LET HIM PLAY!!).
