Newly acquired Washington Capitals forward Martin Erat left Saturday’s game against the Florida Panthers with an apparent leg injury in the first period.
Erat, acquired from the Nashville Predators along with Michael Latta for top prospect Filip Forsberg on Wednesday, was injured when he was hit into the boards by Florida defenseman Erik Gudbranson. After staying on the ice for a few minutes, Erat needed help to get to the dressing room and couldn’t put weight on his right leg.
Gudbranson was assessed a five-minute penalty and a game misconduct on the play.

How the hell do you think as a player when doing such a hit near the boards like that?!? very dangerous hit and can end up really ill for the suffered player.
I've been watching this a couple of times now. And from what I can see its a really late hit. As far as i know you're only allowed to follow up on a hit like that if he just throws the puck away ( Dont get me wrong, you shouldnt follow up on a hit like that from behind, ). And as you can see the puck is going to their defense man. And on a second note it sure looks like a hit from behind.

It's called finishing your check. And shame on Erat for being an idiot and skating with his head down into the boards. It's not Gudbranson's fault that Erat is a irresponsible player. He should know better.
It was an infraction against the Caps…no suspension will come
better than Canes fans booing at the end of the 2nd period. i dont care how bad your team is losing, you dont boo and you certainly dont do it in the middle of the game!
No offence to Erat but when you have Gudbranson behind you, you need to expect to get rocked after giving away the puck, it looked like Erat thought he was playing without hitting and made no effort to protect himself from the impending hit. Gudbranson shouldn't have hit him that hard because it was apparent Erat was not expecting it, but Erat should of expected something, the fact he goes into splits shows he was not ready whatsoever for a check. I hope for a speedy recover for Erat.

The Malkin hit was clean so that is irrelevant.
The hit isn't what gave Malkin the concussion, Malkin fell and then slid ito the boards.
Well according to Shanny, hitting the back isn't illegal, otherwise Nash would have been suspended for his hit on Kopecky last month.

Dude I'm a preds fan, and my favorite player is erat. Hes quick hr can shoot and pass. He's a excellent overall hockey player. VERY underrated
