What other moves do you guys think the Leafs will make to become cap compliant again?

Brodie and probably more will be moved for a shakeup on D. He’s the only one who has the cap hit to make a real change apart from moving one of the core.

I could see one of the core being moved. As talented as they are, they don’t seem to have the “x factor” that’s needed to succeed when it really matters.

The easiest option…sending guys on two-way contracts down to the minors

EDIT: two-way contracts on entry-level deals. Did I get it right?

Edit Edit: waiver eligible players, doesn’t matter if it’s one or two way contracts.

If the goal is still to revamp the defense, trade a defenseman for a cheaper defenseman.

    Brodie released.

    Lafferty traded.

    GIO retires.

Nylander won’t be traded. It would not be a good move trading him from what i can gather. I don’t know what our GM knows on availability out there obviously. Id like Nylander staying for competitive value. I would keep him the entire year and bridge this out until Tavares’s contract is cheaper. These guys can all be kept i hope.

  7. Treliving has already stated that he likes long D. Long D jokes aside, he built Calgary to have a big, physical defensive core. McCabe is the only D on the Leafs who brings size and physicality. Even Dubas eventually figured out this is crucial for playoff success. I’m thinking Treliving is going to pull some form of a blockbuster to bring in another top 4 defenseman with size. If he can’t get Nylander to resign in the teams price range maybe Nylander + Brodie for…..

Nylander for a defenceman has oft been cited by the brightest minds in hockey as the solution to all the leafs’ woes for about 5 years now.

Think there is still a trade coming to help the defence, which I assume will sort out any remaining cap issues. Brad sounded fairly confident for work which still needs to be done, to get “long D”.
